Hmm, should I admit it. I was a Lambo and Vespa boy, many many moons ago. Silly git, never took my test.
Soooo..........took it last August on a Yamaha Cygnus X 125. Passed first time and now ride an X-Max 250 twist and go. Goes like a bloody rocket with great acceleration.
My bruvs a top mechanic (Yamaha) on the London/Kent border. (That's why I keep to Yamahas)............

Bruv recommends upgrading to a 500 twist and go (T-Max is it ?).
Gotta wait till Aug 2014 as I took my test on a 125 twist and go and the law says I have to wait 2 years before I can go above a 250

I wish I could, but it changed again this January, based now on ages/power. It's a nightmare now, but it's designed to stop youngsters killing themselves on bigger bikes.
Here's a good single page summary though, hope it helps........

Thats interesting thanks,I see you cant restrict large cc bikes back to 33bhp, to be fair I have to agree with the size restrictions as its only up to age 21
