Hay Guys,

I'm new to this forum. Last week I swapped my 2005 BMW F650GS Dakar for a 1999 Yamaha YZF R1 and I love it. Bike is brilliant . only has 8500 miles on the clock with a little cosmetic damage but mechanically sound. Only problem I have found is the grips. The previous owner has put on grips that look nice but are hard as hell so my hands hurt after a while but they will be getting changed soon.

Other than that it seems fine but if there is anything I should be looking out for then let me know

So your one of these 'have you turned it off the on again' IT people then.
Fit softer grips and lot less fatiguing on the arms and less arm pump. Just use the correct grip compound, unlike some folk on here.

Ha Ha, I hate telling people to turn it off and on again but sometimes that's all it needs

Will be getting some grips as soon as I find some I like. will have to look into this grip compound. never changed grips before (never needed to), I presumed you just pulled the old ones off and put the new ones on? guessing not

Welcome ray, bike is a beauty!! I had the same model & colour.
My only recommendation would be a steering damper (if it hasn't got one) had many bruised ankles without one on mine

Hi Ray. Nice looking bike! That seat works well. As for the grips, you may want to finely cut down through the middle (longways) of the old ones depending on how long and what they were put on with. Makes life alot easier. Nothing worse than a spinning grip. I used some hairspray to lube up the initial fitment and then it dries sticky, holding the grip in place. Im sure theres some proper stuff you can buy

Nice bike, don't like the exhaust can colour at all, apart fae that its sweeeeeet!!!
