R1 Newbie from Gosport

Hi everyone
I'm 29 from Gosport, just bought a Yamaha R1 2008 White/red colours.
I had a Yamaha TRX 850 a couple of years back but due to money constraints I have been unable to buy another bike until now. First big bike was a Honda VT 500 and before that I owned an Aprillia 125 and a 50 cc Piaggo so a gradual rise up through the engine sizes!
I was thinking of buying a Ducati however was put off by the servicing costs and as soon as I saw this bike I fell in love with it.
Bought it from a guy in Sevenoaks and had a couple of rides now and what a beauty it is to ride-I am used to the low end grunt of a twin but this thing pulls over the entire rev range-amazing!
I have a slight battery issue at the moment. I initially had to charge the battery due to it being sat for several weeks whilst on sale but after I got back from a ride to Loomies cafe on sunday I tried starting it back up again to put in my garage and it appears the battery hasnt been charging. I have stuck it back on the charger/optimiser again but any ideas to what this might be would be grand.
Extras wise on the bike it is mostly standard bar Yoshimura pipes and R & G protectors whic have been fitted from new.
Looking forward to meeting some of you guys on the road!
Alex

Hi Alex and welcome to the forum mate, nice looking 4C8 you got there
With regards to the battery i'm afraid it's a common fault with that model, i'd replace it with a Gel type if i was you, quite a few of us on here have done that. Have you still got the CAT on the bike or has it been removed ?? if that's not been done then i highly recommend it, that and either get the ECU flashed or install a PC3, if you think it pulls like a train now wait until you see what it's like after doing that

Hello mate, do you have any recommendations for batteries e.g best for price? Not sure if the cat has been removed- I don't believe it has-that is 1 of my future plans to get a PC3-reading the bike mags I have heard they make a huge difference! Will probably have to wait until the new year as the cost of the bike plus getting my car resprayed/serviced has meant a bit of spending lately-got to keep the long haired colonel/wife happy!

Hi m8 welcome in to the forum and 4c8/Yoshi ownership

I would put a motobat on her, cost wise about £53. As Bub says get a decat and PC3/5 or flashtune.

Cheers for the welcome guys-I plan to put loads of goodies over time on her-my eBay watch list has grown by 50%! The Pro bolt catalogue has come out of storage!

Decat has just been added to the eBay watch list-TBH honest I noticed it was pretty warm on my ride out this afternoon! Is there much change in HP? Loving the wheels and seat cowl you have on yours-I cant find that seat cowl anywhere!

That's a decent price for a battery-I shall keep an eye on it-it didnt cause me a problem today but I will change it at the first sign of any more trouble. What does a flashtune involve?

Nice 4c8 dude.
IMO No to the red levers, so 90s
But then again, its yours, do what you want with it.
Take pics, post here and these ruthless barstewards will slag it off
Put a list in the "WANTED" section.
But be warned, if a decent priced decat comes up your gonna have to fight me for it
Twisting nipples and biting is permitted

Nickis 07 still has the original battery, just stick it on a charger every now and again if its not been used.
Still got the original on mine too.
Wonder if it makes a difference if their garaged all the time?
