Hi all, just joined the forum and in the hunt for a nice silver and black 2002 or the 2004 model. Have always loved the 2002 bike, so will probably go that way.

Any advice on what to watch for, or any good bikes going , very much appreciated.

Thanks guys an gals.

:D

TBH,ive only had a battery issue in just over 10 years of owning this bike,i have put a steering damper on it,several more mods too(Dynojet,Samco,Levers,R&G etc etc)

The gearbox can be a bit clunky, but thats just a case of replacing the indent spring usually :)

Welcome Mike, the 5PW sounds like the best bet for bang for your bucks, quite a big price jump for the 5VY usually about 1k-1'5k from what I see, anyone :?:

What ever you get you will love it. enjoy this little R corner

Hi Bub, around £3500? Is that realistic? And can collect a bike from anywhere in the UK these days, so no issues there..... Any advice?

You'll get a nice one for that IMO , you might as well have jonboys he never bloody rides it anyway :D

Advice, really, erm......Ride it, if it feels good buy it :D

Find one in ace condition cos parts aint exactly cheap to replace on the R1.

Welcome mate. Good choice on wanting the best looking rear end on a R1 ever! (IMO of course :D )

There are a good few 5PW's for sale right now round about the 3 grand mark. If I were you id look for one with mods already on it such as Akrapovic exhaust, steering dampers etc. as they cost a lot of money & really, no difference in price from a standard 5PW.

Had a 5PW myself and loved it, great bikes, dont really need a damper on this model IMHO, one on ebay the now , bet if you offered them 3k they would bite your hand off the now, few nice extras on it as well, with 3.5k you aint far off a 2004 bike territory, might be worth a bit off patience a few 2002 bikes appear on ebay now and again.
