Hello everyone im looking for some advice! I interested in an 54 plate r1 but there is no mot history except for the mew one that comes with the bike, have looked on gov website and ran a check on it and it comes up clean! Very low mileage too! The gove website only shows the current mot and hasnt had one since new! Should i be suspicious? Test ride went well pulls like a train, speedo currently doesnt work or odometer but thats being sorted! Thanks in advance

If all checks are clean and the R1 is what you are looking for then it all sounds good to me , you could always get an rac inspection done just for peace of mind if the seller allows

Has it possibly been a track bike thats been put back on the road?
Check everywhere for signs of being down the road and bits that arnt normally removed having signs of being removed.
Look for bolts and fasteners that dont match.

It is nice and clean just the instruments which i was told is sensors so being replaced! So any advice would be welcome

Welcome in Dave. As Stug says has it been a track bike, if the fairings are mint, no stone chips but pegs and leavers look worn then it could have been wearing race fairings. Yamaha build quality is excellent, but boots do scuff the swing arm, grips show wear, as does the frame between the tank and the fairings, I took the paint off mine, also the tank can show aligns of wear, cost if it's had track fairings on they will more than likely have used the OE tank. Inspect the back end of the swing arm, has it been on and off paddock stands, also check the forks for the same, what to the chain adjusting bolts look like, worn or mint ?

On the other hand, if there isn't a mark on the frame, the shock is clean and like new and everything looks as it should then it could be getting a good bike. It's worth looking round and see what you can get fir your money.

Also where is the bike advertised..... Put a link on here, it may be a long shot but someone may know the bike... As I say it could be a long shot.... Also a picture tells a thousand words and eagle eyed peeps on here miss nothing on pics.... Luke will even give you a run down on the riding style of the current owner just by looking at the tyres.
Good luck in your hunt fir your perfect r1

To post pics, have a look at the FAQ section..... Basically join need to host the pic in something like photobucket then copy the image link and past it into the thread.

You can also search the site for a topic on posting a pic..... I'll do a search also

Steve :P

Cant see much in the pics but mine has clocked over 20,000 and theres no paint worn off the frame.
The exhaust cover is missing from the right hand side, no big deal but its still missing.
They have changed the screen, pipes and brake hoses but kept the ugly standard rear mudguard. A bit strange.
Theres no spare key which means there probably isnt the red master key either.

Looks like a nice bike mate, I got over 65,000 miles out of my 2004 5vy, same model as this.

Reading the advert a couple of questions spring to mind, peeps on here I need your help cos I may be talking a load of nonsense...

Firstly the bike had done 6,690 miles and has a new chain and sprockets ... Why you can get loads more miles than that out of a well maintained chain and sprocket..... Or has the bike been stood and the chain gone rusty.... Possibly.

The bike has no spare key.... So if you loose your key you are fooked as you would need to buy a new ecu, ignition barrel, fuel filler lock and pillion pad lock... At least you need the red key as that is the master and other keys can be cloned off that.... Also who loses the red key?

The bike has an mot till may 2015 buy is taxed to September 2014.... That's four months I between them.... So whoever taxed the bike in march 2014 or September 2013, ie six months or twelve months before the tax runs out must have had an mot.... So where is it.

Sorry if this is sounding negative Dave, but I am trying to help, the bike does look good I agree with pod it is expensive, but the no spare key would put me off and the mismatch with the mots and the tax......

Have a good look around mate, you can find some lovely 5vys for that money and personally I don't think mileage is a problem, it's all about how the bike has been looked after.

Guys.... If I'm talking a load of dribble speak up, Dave needs out help

Cheers

Steve

Without looking at the bike here is my opinion. 54 plate so registered between 1st Sept 04/28th 05. that makes it a 9/10 year old bike which should have had at least 6 MOTs, 6900k miles and the speedo/odometer is not working. So legally it can't have been ridden since 04/05! I would be suspicious.

Your right about most of your points Steve.
As you say its been taxed so it must have had an MOT as you cannot get tax without it.
Mine still has the standard chain on it and it still looks good.
A lot of people do neglect their chains and some replace way before they need to.
The worst thing I would say about it would be the paint on the frame.

As Steve said,I also noticed the discrepency between the mot and it being taxed.
Do a HPI on it or if you aren't sure pay by credit card that way you are covered if something is amiss..
