This is probably in a post somewhere. But here goes.

I have just got an R1 5vy. Just wondering best settings for suspension, I'm 6ft and nearly 16st. It just feels like I'm riding right over the tank and I can't see instrument panel as the screen is in the way.

unlikely you'll find any spot on settings, set you're sag first you'll need a mate and a tape

are the reat sets just below the seat or something! If you can't see the instrument panel it sounds like the bike has been set up with it's bum right in the air...have the pulled the forks through the clamps by around 50cm?!

Thanks guys. Will have a play and see what settings I can do. And it is a 56 plate but au56. Did hpi and was all clear. It's like learning to ride again, came from sv1000 and an old gsxr 1100 to this.

It sounds like you are maybe sitting a bit too straight.
I am just over 6 feet tall and if I sit really straight on the bike the screen does obscure the clocks a bit.
If that is what you are doing sitting this way will probably give you sore wrists as you will be leaning on them.
Try to relax a bit and get comfy.

Weird as I went from a stolen R1 to an SV1000 naked and also bought a 25 year old VFR for shits and giggles. Did you do much to your SV? Can PM me if you like rather than sullying your first thread with filthy Suzuki talk

My sv1000 was the sz model. Gsxr anniversary one. Unfortunately it was a cat c when I bought it. Only changes I did was the end cans. Already had gsxr1000 upside down forks. Loads of torque but completely different to the r1. And it had straight bar conversion.

And probably right I maybe am sitting on the tank with my knackers, maybe a more fun way of getting a vasectomy. Never rated jax. Think they are too expensive, usually use a guy in Huntington, maybe a bit slow at times but is the oracle of bikes.

Also I don't know how to pm yet or upload old pics of last bike. And if any of you are at Barton tonight. Might say hello if I recognise a bike

Welcome mate, double bubble screen will help with the clocks if it's still oem. you'll find the riding position more aggressive then an sv or old gsxr so try keep your bollocks well away from the tank, relax your arms and grip the tank with your thighs to support your upper body as it sounds like your riding bolt upright. I'm 6 foot 6 and the 5vy is surprising accommodating for us lanky folk [emoji6]

Here you go Rodger this should help you with posting picks .


Now your problem with the R1 !
1st step is to take off that nice shinny plastic sh!te fairing , wrap it up & stick it in the loft !
2nd step is to flat bar it & then you'll be nice & comfy , the added bounus is you won't scratch that expensive plastic

Dont people just do that after they crash? I thought they were just poor and couldn't afford a replacement...

Not what we would call a proper hello is it.

Your bike must be fucked if you cant see the clocks or your sitting like you have a 10 inch anal dildo inserted, ffs man I am 6ft 4" and can see all the clocks, chreist I can even lay flat on the tank behind the screen. As far as sussy settings helping this no chance. Learn how to set the bike up as no one knows how you ride or what you want the bike to do. there is a useful suspension thread on here, the search bar will help you locate it.

Pics and some biking history would be nice, if its not too much trouble

I have been out today, armed with a screw driver. Messed about with the settings, starting to deem a bit more comfy now. I have never owned or ridden one of these before, but starting to have a bit of fun, settings at the moment are soft/medium. Seems to be working so far for me.

What I have noticed though, is when I crack it open, around 7000ish revs it sounds more like clutch slipping and does this till about 11000ishishss. Is this the ex up working??? Or maybe the last guy has been clutching up wheelies, or something else. Happens in all gears around the same revs.

Honestly officer I was only doing 61mph at around 11000 revs in 6th gear

not saying it is but some times the clutch springs start to go weak , maybe worth replacing it

Does seem more like that. May replace the whole lot. Apart from the basket.

Well u must be talking about the general then fella i live in huntington myself so if I ever get to ride my bike again we shall have to pop out for a bimble sometime.
