Hi all from sunny south wales were I moved to a few years ago. Mainly to surf more and ride/race my ktm enduro bikes. Been riding for 25 years now and this R1 5jj that I bought is my 64th bike[emoji15]. Had them all but not an r1 which I dont understand, probably because they were never cheap. This one was cheap as it has a sick engine. But a solid bike. The work starts this weekend! Anyway I can see the wealth of knowledge here so I hope I can get a few bits of advice etc and join in.
Cheers

Well. Theres no milky oil, there's no smoke. BUT theres a top end rattle above the norm. Its dobe 25k so valves will be due. It runs reasonably ok but a little miss now and again. Carbs will need syncing. I hope its valves. If it was a big end I would expect a load knock and vibration. There is an important engine bolt missing on the right frame spar! When I first got it the noise was quite load. Aftet running it for a couple of minutes it quitend down dut still above the norm. I do hope its a top end issue. Cam chain and adjuster plus maybe.I guess I will have to drop the oil have a look at that and start at the top end. Batterys abit flat to. But I only paid 1200 for it and want to make it a nice original bike. Its all original and solid at the moment just needs a good strip service everything and sort the engine. I will be putting good plastics on to as these are 80% good but thats not a priority at the moment. Luved my yams fzr1000 genesis-exups yzf750's tzr's TDR's fzr 600's and 400rr DT's Probably forgot some others I've had over the years. Luv the 50/50 distribution.

Very nice, keep an eye on your speed as the r1 has a tendency to lure you in 9 points tell me that

Welcome in booster, and need hash's warning, he is our resident speedster..... South Wales is a beautiful part if the country and you are a surfer too...... Nice one mate. I used to surf when my parents lived in Cornwall .... Gwithian was my favourite spot ... But being in Cheshire.... The surf ain't up to anything on the Mersey or the Manchester ship canal .... My stick is in the garage, wet suits, summer and winter in the wardrobe with me leathers...... Still I have bikes .
Our original plans were to move to Cornwall to be with my parents, but things have changed. My wife reckoned she would be a bike and surf widow..... If the sun was shining I would be on the bike, raining I'd be surfing
Hope you get the bike fixed and that it's not too much trouble.... So welcome
