Just a wee hello from Ireland
I picked up a 2012 14b recently and trying to get to grips/figure it out

Having had every incarnation of R1and a few other makes I'll not mention,
I'd have a fair idea on how a bike goes.

This new one has me puzzled.
The Big Bang thump is really throwing me in the sense that it's not that torquey,
But it is.
It just dosent seem to behave like a normal inline 4!
Am I making sense?

Welcome in John , you have passed the first test by posting a pic, the guys on here will be impressed.

The 14be is a different machine, personally I love it, I like the sound. You are right it's not like an in line 4 or a twin, it's something I between . The fuelling will benefit from a flash tune or a PCV with custom map, that will sort out the iratic throttle.

Have you tried it in A mode, I find that smoother than standard. The traction control gives me confidence, I found the brakes improved with the addition of braided hoses and new pads..... Cant remember the name of them though.

They can take some getting used to, you will either love it or hate it. They are big but quite nimble at the same time, I fund the v profile front hoop improves turn in. Stock suspension is soft so can benefit from being set up correctly.

I hope you get used to it, quite a few of us on here have them, so fire away any questions, we are all willing to help. Also loads of banter on here and good humoured p!ss taking.

Strange thing the 14b, I believe it has less torque than my 4c8, its how its developed that is different, lots love lots hate the 14 series, see which way you go.

Had a wee read around the forum,
And flash tune seems to be the way forward.

It's buy no means slow,
It just feels very weak in low to mid range compared to a gixer,
Then bang,
She's away like sh!t off a shovel.
A mode all the time and Traction control off as it is useless.
Have pushed the TC in the dry and it comes in too late,
So I'll be using my head in the wet.

All in all loving it,
But it is an squired taste!

There's been so many posts about the 14b , if you can learn how to ride it then it's been said to be one of the best bikes .

Yes they are an acquired taste, bit like marmite

welcome in John and congrats on your purchase, i have a 14be and have to say it is all and more than i want from a bike, i love the power delivery and torque and cant say i have had any issues with the tc coming in late.
It is different and takes some getting used to in the power stakes but once you have your head tuned to it it becomes a thing of beauty to ride
