13S R6 Owner Buys 14BE R1 :D

Hi everyone,

My name's Matthew, everyone still calls me by my childhood nickname though, Maz. :D 22 from Aberdeen (without trying to make this sound like an online dating profile).

Bit of background; ALWAYS been into bikes. Had a number of 50cc's when I was 16, got my first Yamaha when i turned 17, the R125 when it first came out, got knocked off it while filtering less than a month from getting it - write off. Got another from her insurance (as it was completely her fault for not checking her blind spot). Then binned that on my own stupidity a few months later. So never had a great start with the Yamaha's to be honest but I loved them both.

Passed my restricted test (33bhp) in June 2010 and bought a 2005 Suzuki SV650S as it was going cheap, had it for 3 months and was drawn back to a Yamaha again. It was my 19th birthday so thought I'd treat myself and traded the SV in for £200 more than I bought it (winner  ) for a brand new R6 ;) . 6 months later I got banned for drifting a car that I had at the time, 12 months without use of the R6 (except for one day when I took it down to a drag track and flipped it like a complete tw*t  ) . At least I had plenty of time to fix it while I was off the road. :violin:

Got back on the road, still not having learned my lesson, and got clocked at 109mph in a 50 zone.....being a tw*t again I know. So enjoyed the time I had before the court case came around, managed to calm myself down a bit in all honesty :) , then got another 15 months for dangerous driving...BUT...that's all in the past now that I'm not disqualified anymore  .

During that 15 months I did my ACU/SACU race licence, so that I had a way of doing track days without a valid dvla licence, and fancied taking up racing, but funds haven't allowed it this year really as the R6 (which is now a dedicated track bike) recently blew the head gasket.

Which brings me to this weekend.....I went in past the local garage to see how the mechanic was getting on with the R6 (I usually tackle any repairs myself, but I think taking the head to bits was a bit beyond my reach) .... Now it's just coming up for my 23rd birthday and somehow, and I'm not too sure when this happened, I managed to get myself a deal on a 14 plate R1  . I've known for a while that when I was going to get a 1000cc it was going to be the R1, but I didn't plan to get one this weekend  but my wonderful mrs put down the deposit as an early birthday pressie  she's a keeper eh ;)

Anyway it's a 14BE in matte black/grey and gold, similar to what the R6 was when it was new. I seen it in the showroom, wasn't brand new though......120 miles on the clock....so basically brand new  , but with £1200 off the new retail price :D, also got another £200 off as it's the same garage I bought the R6 from so over the last 4 years I've come to know everyone that works there on first name terms :)

So, it's sitting waiting for me to go and pick up.....in my van....with my mrs driving.....because I still need to resit an extended test before I'm actually allowed to start riding again :violin:

In the mean time I'll be tinkering about with the new beastie and I'll be on the hunt for some carbon Akrapovics and a tail tidy first ;) . Following that over the next while there will be things like crash protection, lots of carbon bits, nice screen, possibly rear sets at some point, decat pipe etc etc you all know the score :D .

I'll upload a load of photos tomorrow on the computer at work  .
Also I'm on R6ers, MotoForum, and Track Day Riders all as Maz_636 if any of you guys are on any of them :)

Welcome in mate. After reading your intro I'm going to very blunt. Ride a 14B like you have ridden your other bikes in the past and you won't be around long to tell the tale. These bike bite and bite hard. Keep safe.

Cheers guys, yeah I know I'll be taking it easy on the road now. I've got the track toy to get my need for speed out :) the R1 is mainly is going to be used for leisurely runs in the better weather and there's no way I'll be going mad on it....if I it caught doing something stupid again the chances are more than likely that I'd be sitting in a cell instead of Knockhill! I can't let that happen so I know myself that I'll be taking it easy :hand:.

Yeah I've been meaning to get down there but just not had the chance! A lot of folk prefer it over knockhill I've heard as well, and they covered over the bumpy bit now as well, or so I heard anyway :)

Hi Maz, nice looking R1.
I'd say save the madness for the track, but I guess that's easier said than done. :D
