New to R1 and 4 strokes

Hi all

Bought an R1 9 week back and now having a crash course in 4 stroke maintenance. It dropped a valve last week.

I still got my RGV500 I built 18 year back with a 29 year old reliable 2 stroke motor.

So much for modern 4 stroke reliability.

I would add pics but I don't use photo bucket, is there no way to load direct to the site?

Was gonna go straight in with the whole anti establishment thing and how d'ya feel about the current free market paradigm coercing and stimulating the evil in us all, eating away at our very soul and leaving nothing but a vacuous shell, happy to be spoon fed whatever materialistic, ego serving poo poo that should come its way...

...but thought I'd be polite and start off slowly. :D

Seams it can happen, the spring retainer split in half dropping the whole valve in at 13k in second, I was lucky with the relative lack of damage

Those retainers(collets) are supposed to be in two halves as far as I'm aware.

You were lucky indeed. Considering the revs these bikes make I don't think we have a massive amount of engine failures

Nice to see you have already gotten to grips with how they need to be ridden ;) 13k in second that will be about 125 then 8-)
