Just bought my first R1

Hi all.
Just chopped my 1994 Suzuki RF900R for a 2003 R1 (5PW?)".
Always liked the RF, bit different from the crowd, bags of poke, rock solid stability, nice predidictabe neutral handling, seems pretty bombproof.
Holy sh#t, maybe got 60-70 wet and greasy miles under the R1, and in complete awe already. Think it will be a while until I'm happy to muscle it about in the ham fisted manner I could get away with on the RF. unbelievable motor, Gravity defying weight and balance, telepathic steering. Although it's been to wet out to push on a bit, I have already discovered what this "feedback" stuff is all about. Problem is, it all seem to be the bike saying " grow a pair, is that all you've got, wake me when we get going".
Can't wait for the spring to get used to it all,
Cheers.

Cheers already, quite like the wet for forcing you to slow it down a bit and be smooth and precise. So the winter should be good to let me get a feel for it all. Having said that, had the change up light flash already and poped the wheel up off the throttle a couple of times. I imaging this is what heroin is like.

They are a lovely handling usable bike , the 4xv & 5jj are so well mannered & torquey from low down & from what i've read the 5pw & 5vy are very similar .

Yeah life will never be the same after you ride a litre sportsbike.
What are the tyres? Some of the latest tyres are amazing in the wet, eg Pilot Road 3 or 4.

Welcome in simon, a lot of people wonder what R1 nutters go on about, but it's not until you have ridden one that you know, you either get bitten by the bug, like you have or you don't. We on here have all been bitten and they are an awsome bike. You are spot on re the feedback, it's as if the bike is talking to you, well that's what I think anyway, saying that the guys on here think I'm mad.... So that probably explains that.
Take it easy in the winter, learn your bike and come the summer you will be tearing up the Tarmac, ..... Winter is great for learning smooth throttle control on a litre bike, and that will help you immensely in the summer.
Enjoy the firum and the R1.
Oh and the gits on here have a great sense of humour ..... Well they think they are funny anyway.......
So welcome
Stephen aka Cilla ..... The guys sense of humour again

Or maybe not. Help. How do I get a pic in to a message?
I seem to have managed to put a pic in my gallery, but can't insert it into a post.

Welcome in mate and enjoy your new toy. R1s do egg you on and you will appreciate the bike more when the weather is better. My bike to me is like what cigarettes and alcohol is to others!
