Hi everyone,

New R1 owner here from North Yorkhire and will be picking up my first R1 early next week, 2000 model and in near showroom condition as can get

Looking forward to having a nosey on here and discovering what the R1 is made of.

Nice clean looking 5jj , a few to many stickers & not keen on the red leavers but other than that very clean ( you want to see mine most on here think its sacrilege ) .
If it's all set up & running nice it'll be a great !
& they go like joe stink when you hit 8-9000 rpm .
You'll have lots to be reading on here then & don't forget to download the service manual from the 5jj section if the links still working , for the parts micro fiche you'll have to use one of the online ones in the sticky in the genral bike section .
So tell use all a bit about yourself & your biking history .

Dont worry all the stickers will be coming off back to the original paintwork, also will be replacing the tank protector as is currently a picture of a naked woman as per tinkering on the bike, I make get the carbs balanced/checked and dyno'd to see what its running, good usual service of oil and filters, brakes are spot on and fluids perfect, levers will be changed as you mentioned and some sleeker side lights are in order and change the main bulbs to osram ones. dont want to do to much as its a gem of a bike and would like to keep it a clean standard bike for the next buyer.......if I decide to ever sell it, the summer months will help me decide if she's a keeper.

As for my riding I have just sold a very clean example of a Honda CBR600 F3 and wanted something with more power and modern styling, R1 was an obvious choice. I covered 4500 miles last year on the CBR as we have some absolutely fantastic roads round here and a good run out to sherburn in elmet near leeds for some packed out bike nights in the summer months

so to confirm my bikes the 5jj on an X reg?

Welcome in phil - great choice the 5jj once the roads dry up ur gonna get such a buzz outta wringing it's neck lol - I reckon once you've got used to the spread of power you ain't gonna wanna give it up - so give us a bit more about ur bike history mate or was the cbr ur first

Yes CBR600 was the first bike, 4500 miles and feel ready for something more, I have alot of road sense and knowledge and know my limits, im not some kamikaze cowboy.

Welcome to the forum. Pity it's not a 4xv but you've got the next best model .

There's lots of good info here on the R1. Do some research and ask questions before making any performance mods - some of the usual mods like a K&N filter will actually lose power.

Welcome in Phil. That's a mint R1 you have there, don't listen to monkey face aka Jompy as he would have the fairings off as well as the stickers, his view is that if it's no use then it's not on the bike, the exception to his rule is himself of course.

The CBR 600 is a good bike to start with, but your R1 is light years ahead of it, you seem sensible so take your time and learn your new bike, you are going to have so so much fun.

The guys on here are really helpful, what they don't know about yamaha ain't worth knowing, so any questions you have just fire away.

There is loads of banter on here and we do take the p!ss out of each other and have a good old laugh, but that makes the forum stronger, and this is a strong forum. Also there are no dicks on here which also helps.

Sounds like I found the right forum then!

Quick post about the ride home, was a nippy ride up on the back of a fireblade and when we arrived the road he lived on was sheet ice and snow! to top it off he lived down an embankment which meant one riding, one pushing and one pulling to get it to the road within 10 yards to park it managed to lock the front wheel and tighten my sphincter.

Set off home after a refuel, adjusted to the new riding position and instantly noticed how tight the box feels and how it instantly finds the gear, the bike seems nice and nimble and an absolute joy to ride, had a great journey home with a big grin I completely forgot about the cold! got caught out by the sheer torque it pulls in 6th, 60mph when to overtake a lorry and lit the back end up completely, uber moment have to say I think the ohlins dampener might have saved the day and quick thinking to ease of the throttle, safe to say I was duely reminded of what an awesome machine this is and how its to be respected!

Got her home and gave her a lovely clean of ready for the next ride!
