Re: My 4th and best R1
Hi
I will need it flashed as I have a full Akrapovic Titanium exhaust on with carbon cans, she does pop on deceleration and I would like the fan to kick in sooner.
I did look into it earlier but I got confused about the whole flashing procedure.
I was offered the kit to connect to the bike to flash but it was the process which confused me, and the maps , which one to use etc
regards Mark

Welcome in mate. Same bike as mine so don't listen to the red framed haters. The 14B is a great bike and I have to agree the Akras sound great!

Re: My 4th and best R1
Welcome to the forum Mark with the pink framed R1, we have a number of these bikes on here, and to be fair, and being serious, they do look good, just don't let Locke know I said that. Mine pops and bangs on deceleration, and I find that sound intoxicating, as well as the misfiring sound on acceleration .... Music to my ears.

This is your fourth R1, so tell us a bit about the others you have owned so we can get to know you and you get to know us. I agree the bangers are fantastic, I'm on my third, and fifth R1 overall

The only reason I bought another R1 was this colour scheme, the best.LOCKE wrote:Welcome in mate. Same bike as mine so don't listen to the red framed haters. The 14B is a great bike and I have to agree the Akras sound great!

if you look at the resale prices then you will see premium prices for the red frame.
Who wants the dull blue or black model.
They don't look as good as the pearl white with red frame, maybe they secretly wish they had the white?

Re: My 4th and best R1
I'm with you on the RED frame model, I think it looks absolutely brilliant, I only brought mine in January so haven't ridden it too much, I was going to de-cat it and flash the ECU before even riding it, but after some good advice from the guys on here I rode it a couple of times before then having the ECU flashed by Mike, and jeezzzusss Christ what a transformation, it was ok before, a bit lumpy around town, but thought it was still good, but after sending it to Mike for re-flashing and also removing the cat, it was a different bike completely.....I've had all most of the 1000cc sports bikes and a B King and I would say that so far, this is to date my favourite bike.........the noise it makes is awesome and soooo intoxicating, it still rumbles and pops a little on over run, but I love it..........I don't think it's as quick as my 2010 ZX10R, but the way if delivers the power and the sound of it, did I mention that
this is my banger....

First R1 was a 2001 model, brand new from Bristol, that was a great bike in red. white and black I remember getting a great deal at £6800 with alarm, I loved this bike.....
Second R1 was a 2002, yes in RED with the led strip light, I didn't like this model very much, it seemed soul less.
Third was a grey 2005 with under seat pipes, metallic Grey, bought it with 4000 miles on it in 2006, was not to keen as it wasn't red.
So last August I would browse the classifieds and saw this one, wow I thought, I bought it from a rich 19 year old kid in London who bought it 2 months earlier, he also had a new R6.
He spent thousands on all the trick bits, Full titanium Akrapovics, Meta Def-com T Remote Alarm, Airblade Dark Smoke double bubble screen, R&G Engine Casing Protector, Official Yamaha R1 Frame Crash protectors ( Not the ones that you have to cut into the fairings.) Front LED flush mounted indicators, rear led indicators, Tail tidy, Carbon fibre yolk Protectors etc.
I asked why sell it after 6 weeks after spending all the cash on it ? he replied, " to be honest its to much for me im keeping my R6 as its better for me"
I did a HPi , all clear so I bought it but he fitted Supercorsa BSB tyres they were crap, I remember thinking on the long ride home " sh!t I cant ride anymore, it was awful.
A trip to my tyre specialist, so a set of Bridgestone S20 Evo's sorted the bike a treat. Brilliant shoes !!!
Great forum, very informative and good banter
