Hello folks,

thank you for allowing a heretic like myself join your forum. Why am I a heretic you may ask?

Well it is because I am here to gather information to enable me to sort out some problems with my Suzuki SV650 Streetfighter project. Now I know that many people see the term "Streetfighter" and instantly assume that I must be the sort of odious fool who has slid her bike up the road and then pulled off the broken fairing before bolting on a load of mismatched parts and now has a bike that handles like an angry bull with a migraine, trying to break free from a Jackass set!

Well most of that is not the case. I promise that I am a nice girl really and I have never slid my bike up the road... well not far up the road anyway!

My bike is the K3 SV650S which has had a fair bit of custom work done to it so that I can ride following a spinal injury a few years ago. Gone are the sporty clip ons and instead I have a set of huge Renthals, my fairing is still all intact and even in the original colour, but the original mirrors were dreadful so I have replaced them with some Bandit ones instead.

The fork on the SV is quite basic and my needs since my accident are a bit more special, so I bought these from a track day loony, used them for a while and now have to strip them down again for a good service, so I shall be scouring your pages looking for tips. They are from a Yamaha YZF1000 R1 5PW 2002 (if that is the right way of saying it, given that my bike is known as a pointy in SV circles) and my rear shock is a Penske Racing 8900 series with remote reservoir bolted on next to my battery box. I am also thinking of changing the springs for some that are a little softer, but have yet to discover what the internals look like.



Anyway, this is what my bike looks like and I do hope that you wont mind a dirty Suzuki girl hanging about and stealing tips on fork servicing from you. Oh before you ask, yes I do all of my own mechanics, despite being a girly and no I do not just turn up at a bike shop and cry until my bike is fixed for me!

Welcome in Alby, I see you have a sense of humour, good job as this lot can be brutal, but its all in good jest, This site is fast becoming a place where all that matters is you enjoy riding whatever bike you have, so I hope you stick around and enjoy what we have to offer.

Welcome to the forum Jayne and a cracking intro to boot, love the bike, especially the colour of the seat

As scrappy says, we have our very own primate, monkey face, aka Jompy who has a street fighter R1 , and actually, but don't tell him this, it looks quite nice too. Like you he hasn't binned his bike....... He just has an aversion to fairings, I mean the thought and sight of them make him feel sick... So whenever he sees our bikes he is a really sick chimp.

Whilst we, well the majority of us ride Yamaha's, we have quite a few suzukis on here and the odd honda, well Hondas are odd arnt they ..... So you are not alone with yiur Suzuki.

There is loads of banter on here and the guy's have a hell of a lot of knowledge about all things, including bikes, so someone will have an answer for you. Oh and I'm sure with yiur mechanical abilities yiu can help peeps who are less mechanically minded like me

Anyway, this is a cracking biking forum, we do have a good sense of humour, mostly, and like a big family, we help and support one and other.

Welcome in alby mate - after reading ur 1st post I think you'll fit in well & good luck sorting ur sv - jompy will be along shortly with his opinion as to whether an sv is a 'true-streetfighter' . To be fair you have changed some bits of it so that helps - oh & if u can give as good as ya get and aren't easily offended (Luke ) I think ya may enjoy being here so once again welcome

An SV is not & will not ever be a streetfighter but piss taking aside I'll let you off seeing as your first post was so good .
First things first . . . . . .
Welcome to the nut house , these guys are some of the most friendly & helpful I've met so ask your questions .
can't help on the fork servicing as I fitted mine & then just road it all this dialling in crap is for the geeks !
next step is to put your SV back to standard , sell it & buy yourself a 4xv or 5jj & fighter that believe me you won't be disappointed , the torquey motor is great & they're well comfy

What a lovely welcome, you all seem so nice.

I have a fairly robust sense of humour, some would call it dirty and some would even go as far as to call it offensive! My language can be course, but being a nice shiny new person here I shall refrain from the usual effing and jeffing I am so fond of!

My big secret though is that I am the owner of a Yamaha with a four pot engine, a rather battered and clunky grey import XJ400 which was a terrible bike and frankly only worthy of dropping in the sea to hold down a dead body! This is not a bike that I can rightly judge Yamaha by though because when we bought this a few years ago just after I passed my test it was thoroughly awful, a state that never really improved. The previous owner had slid it down the road and done untold damage to it, but had then repaired it with zip ties and the sort of bolts that hold chipboard furniture together. A simple fixer-upper we thought.

The engine was terribly unreliable and would often need a bump start before wheezig down the road at about eight MPH, but still we persevered with the horrible thing, repairing what we could, replacing the rest. The engine finally seized while I was on the motorway, which scared the contents of my stomach into my underwear, which was enjoyable.

I arrived home on the back of a tow truck (the smell in the cab was not the nicest!) and once we got it back in the garage, the fuse box caught fire under the tank. We fitted a new fuse box and loom and then a scrap yard special 550cc engine which came from a similar aged machine. With new carbs fitted, the engine ran, but had a horrible flat spot that we never fully resolved. The final nail in the coffin for that bike came when a friend of mine crashed it up a curb, flew over the handlebars and caused a rather large bruise to form on her posterior! It was at this point (once we had stopped laughing) that we chucked it in the back of the garage and left it to rust where it remains to this day! My Step son has indicated that he may wish to add it to his fleet, along with the other battered and ruined 80s "classics" he seems to collect.

Sadly with the other half's old GTR and shiny ZRX, our neighbours 125 and my SV crammed in the garage too, we just don't have enough room left for an R1 fighter... well not yet anyway!

Get rid of the xj & the SV then get the R1 , you can pick them up for a right bargin these days & they're a lot of bang for your buck !
ZRX they're a big hefty bike , my next door neighbors got one , he's only about 10 stone wet

What a great opener to start , you even managed to link pics in the post(takes most of the neanderthals a minimum of 10 posts to get to grips with pics lol.
Nice to see that despite your spinal injury you are up on two wheels and in the form of a mini twin that cant be knocked.
Like has been said we all help each other here and any questions no matter how daft you will usually get an answer to help.

It has been suggested to me several times that I sell the SV and get a bigger bike, but I just love the V-twin vibes so much, especially when I get to go pillion and lean forward at just the right angle!

I did once try one of the new Z1000 things and sadly it just felt horrible and the noise from the can was like an angry wasp. The seating position was dreadful and the bars were almost as love as the clips on the SV.

While away in Thailand last year on a bike tour, the other half got to try the new fancy three pot engined mobile computer that had all of the traction control gubbins. It looked ok, but I don't think that it made the ZRX look any less palatable.

Down to business now though. I am involved with Weston Super Mare Royal British Legion and we have a Bike Night through out the summer that raises money for the RBL, would you mind if I shared the details on here?
If any of you already know if it and have been, I was the ugly tart walking about with the very pretty Barn Owl nailed to my wrist.

you need to give the ktm duke 2 a go then , 625cc single
years back a mate of mine took it for a spin ( she's a fast rider ) And when she got back with a big smile on her face she announced in front of everyone " thats better than a rampant rabbit !"
gave one of the barmaids (she bats for the other side) a lift home from my mates pub ! when we got to hers she jumped off the the back of the bike all rosey cheeked and jigging around grabbed me gave me a big kiss on the cheek & said thanks that was briiliant we'll have to do it again & then shot off inside ! i'd kept the bike in a low gear & at about 7grand all the way to hers

I don't have any issues in you sharing details of Weston Silly Mare's RBL stuff and I would be happy to support such a good cause.

My Step son's first bike was a Yam DT50, stroker... I could not even pull away on that because it was just too rude!
