Welcome to the forum Jordan and I'm sorry to hear of your second gear issue. I'm sure some of the guys on here will have been there, done that and got the t shirt to boot.

Generally newbies start with a welcome post, tell us a bit about themselves and their biking history, if we are lucky they will post a pic of their bike as well, well you do know what they say, a picture paints a thousand words. These newbie posts allow the new member to get to know us and us them. This really is a great forum, in fact it's the best, the guys are very helpful and knowledgable and like nothing more than helping a fellow rider out.

You could search in the 5jj section to see if there is anything before the guys come on later this evening.

Anyway, good luck with the repairs

Stephen

Hey guys.
I'm a new member. Just found the forum while trying to find an answer to an issue.
I ride a 2008 4c8 r1.
It's my 5th bike as I'm only 25. 26 on Friday.
2 were 50's 1 was a 125. 4th was my zx6r. Restricted for 2 years to 33bhp. Then 3 years de restricted.
I bought my r1 last August.
But I have been a Yamaha fan for as long as I can remember.
I live in Wiltshire uk.
And have a Facebook page called "South west bikers" to meet new riders in my area.
Think that's about it :P

No problem :D i have been riding bikes since 17 now 23 so 6 years now. started with a yamaha ybr that had an eyewatering 65 mph downhill top speed...but i was hooked :ugeek:

from there i got showed the wonders of a 2-stroke and got myself a honda nsr125. unfortunetaly i sold it like a right douche and bought a p reg gsxf600 with a blown exhaust
after a mission with the gsx i ended up getting a 2009 er6-f. fun for the first 3 years but i needed MORE POWER!!

Then a miracle came along! my mates dad had his R1 for sale! Sure it had an issue that he didn't know what it was but it was cheap as chips i would be mad to pass up this deal.

after 2 rides and looking on the internet i knew exactly what the problem was and after talking to my local stealers and bing told to do the gear issue it would be between 1200 and 2500 pounds!!!! I knew i was doing this myself. And that my friends is where we find ourselves.

Magneto thread ripped out but magneto off and engine upside down and half naked in my garage.

i will load pictures but right now i am sure they will make more questions then answer lol

Good write up mate, and at 23 you have brought our average age down and are one of our four youngest members, there are another 3' 23 year olds on the forum , some of us are a tad older but not necessarily wiser :?

I think we've met already in another thread, but welcome anyway. :)

It should be a pretty cheap fix at that mileage, then you'll have a great bike. I've been doing some reading on this problem as my 4xv has done almost 50,000 miles and the changes into 2nd aren't exactly smooth although no shift problems yet. It's a strange problem - some bikes make it to high mileages and are fine, but others like yours go at quite low miles. One theory I've seen is that it's caused by poor machining of the shift drum, so might be worth having a good look when you have it apart.
