R1 Newbie - North Lincolnshire

Hi all,
Sort of new here! I had a 5jj couple of years back and joined up, Sadly it did not last long as I sold the old girl to fund trackday stuff.
Picked up a '99 Blue 4XV a couple of weeks ago, pretty much original and standard, just a bit tatty and unloved. New tyres, mot and a bit of tlc and she's in daily use. Pics to follow!
Looking for some wisdom as I have been around bikes for years but not spent a lot of time on Yamahas - time to rectify that!
Cheers

First job was to remove and set fire to the set of god awful LED/mini indicators! - Managed to find a standard set and off to Webbs Yamaha in Lincoln to order a original rear undertray, two days wait and £78 thankyou!
Oil and filter plus quick strip and check the Exup valve, all good

Welcome in Matt
That looks lovely , hope you didn't tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm like in the manual !
Take a look through the newbie posts as there's a fair bit of advice been given there as well as the 4xv/5jj sections

Also a handy app for posting pic's direct from your mobile is TapaWank . . . i mean Tapatalk , i hate it for browsing the forum but its bloody handy for posting pic's
there's a few things that you need to know about the 4xv so you NEED to have a bloody good read through the 4xv section and also the 5jj section as they're more or less the same bike other than bodywork & the added AIS on the 5jj .
DO NOT.tighten the sump plug up to 42 nm as stated in the service & Haynes manuals unless you want a cracked sump its at least half that figure & while the bikes in bits behind the left hand fairing panel there's the main 20 pin wiring loom connector which is white & is known as the route of all evil as the corrode and cause problems , give it a good clean & grease
Ohh although the links to download the 4xv & 5jj manuals in the 4xv & 5jj sections are broken there should be a link to view them on PDF online once you've opened the PDF up there's an option to down load the PDF file , any problems with getting them just pm me your Email & i'll send them to you
hope it makes sense "fast n loud" has just started on tv so i'm off!
