Welcome in Marko
Sorry to hear of your starting problems , yes the 14b take a lot more power from the battery to start & you need to have a full battery to start them , I think Hinkle there was a recall or if not a recall the dealers would sort the melted headlights if pushed , there should be some of the 14b owners along to give advice

Hi Marko welcome in.

I think the problem with the 14B as I am finding out myself is that there is a lot of drain on the battery when starting it up. If you have replaced the battery I would have thought that would have solved your problem. I have not heard of any problems as such with the starter motor but it would be the next place to start. As for the plastic around the headlights Yamaha know this to be an issue as the headlamps act as magnifying glass. If you pushed your dealer they should pay for the new headlight surrounds and you would pay the labour. I would contact Yamaha Croatia or whoever imports the bike into the country for further advice.

Don't give up on the bike mate as they are such great fun.

Doubt if Yamaha will pay for the starter motor but I would push them for the headlamp surrounds.

Good luck Marko and let us know how you get on.

Once it's fixed you will love it, trust me. As for English it's better than SteveR1s! Gets some pics up, any modifications on it?

Yamaha wont replace whole headlamp unit on 2009-10 r1, they just put a colour sticker beneath the projectors on plastic infills /blue or black/, that was my case. It's better to replace headlamp with 2011 model /it's different headlamp/ or do a headlight conversion and have front of 2012-2014.

As for starter problems - flat or old battery, common issue with big bang. Get Shorai.

Hi Marko, the big bang is a great bike but is very hard to crank and takes a lot of batry power , if any batery is not in best condition you will have problems.
Good news on getting your dealer to sort the headlight also.
Good luck with the starter motor.

Welcome in Marco.... I don't know what Locke means about my English.... Anyway what does he know he is Scottish.

Seriously, as peeps have said the 2009 R1 does drain the battery on starting, my 2011 model usually took three attempts to start....

First attempt..... She would turn over but not fire

Second attempt, I would pin the throttle, she would turn over and back fire

Third attempt..... Pin the throttle, turn over and start, she would fire up and wake the whole neighbourhood up .... This was at 06:30 am."....

This particular R1 had a certain knack to start her, throttle pinned and third attempt every time..... I brassed the neighbours off..... But at least I got her started.

Good luck, oh and also press Yamaha about the headlights, I git mine replaced under warranty on my 2009 R1.

i think it's also because the 14b's are not very smooth & quite snatchy as standard at slower speeds .
hope you get your bike sorted soon :)

Just the starter motor fucked. Common problem. Usually the magnets move or come loose inside. The problems u have will be determined by how bad the starter motor is fucked. Some people finally get her started, some it's random, some only have issues from cold etc. this coupled with most battery's means that it drains and fucks the batty too. Best option, replace starter motor. If it does fire up eventually and u don't wanna fork out for a starter motor, replacement the batty for a expensive hardcore lipo battery which will help u live with it, maybe lol.

P.s. I love my 2009. Don't have any issue with snatchy balls or dodgy clutch, did have the headlight issue and have a mild starter motor issue, but I can live with it. It's fucking mint and after ripping up a duc 1199 penny last Sunday I prefer my sweet and spicy R1 sausage.
