engine gremlins....

Post by cod lamp »

Hi all I've just acquired a lovely yzf R6. ( 5eb ) on a 2000 plate. I was wrongly informed that the engine had a few issues over heating and decided to take it on over winter after a few hours in the man shed spent stripping the lump out. I've stripped the lump and two of the four cylinders have hair line cracks running down the bore selves with part of one forged to the crown of the piston were it has started to disintergrate. Is there anywhere in the UK were I can have them re sleeved if at all possible. Any help would be great I've considered just swapping the bottom half of the lump. Not sure if my first option i@ possible

From hearing about this problem a lot on the r6 forum (esp pot 3) from all accounts there isn't anything you can do. But I would liked to be proved wrong in this case

regard bores dont think repairable as welding then regrinding bores would proberly distort block as very thin walls between bore and water/ oilways, buy a second hand eng block
