Good morning mate and welcome.
All the R1's are great for different reasons, personally if I was commuting I'd go for the 5vy. The Big bang has an awesome engine for road riding/commuting but in my opinion the chassis and fuelling lets it down...unless you wanna start spending your life savings of course. Having said that, SteveR1 commuted on his and loved it...I think  .

Hi Raphael,

Welcome to the forum mate, loads if peeps on here will have advice for you regarding R1's, that's one hell of a monthly commute, mine upto a few months ago was 360 miles a week, so a tad more than your commute about 1,400 miles a month, and the R1 performed beautifully. I ride all year, initially R1's throughout the year but when I got my first 14 b I also got an R6 for winter, and it's that I now use when the salt is on the road.

My advice would be to try a few 14b's as they can be different, some good ones and not so good ones, so try a few and see how you go. Also the 14b is not everyone's cup of tea, I'm on my third, and I love them, but I know some guys on here who have had them and hated them, and gone back to the 4c8?

As for build quality and reliability, they are in my opinion second to none, my 5 vy covered over 65,000 miles in less than three years, my 4c8 45,000 miles in under two years and the three bangers...or sausages as wally calls em, Big Bang..... Banger... Sausage.... Yeah his logic leaves something to be desired..... About 50,000 miles but I've been running the R6 along side.

I would advise either a flash tune, R1Mike on here can sort those or a power commander with a custom map, that improves the fueling and makes the throttle response much smoother.

The sound of the engine in my ears is intoxicating, and it's is that what I love about them. They are big and look bulky next to lesser bikes, but once you get the R1 bug you will be hooked.

This is a great site, loads of good humoured banter and p!ss taking, but we are like one big happy family.

For some reason they call me Cilla, that was down to Locke aks Colin who is now known as colon.... Not that he is an arse, anyway, awsome bike you are after and awsome forum to boot.

Welcome

Cilla aka stephen :P

Thanks for the quality reply fella if you can do that sort of mileage then I shouldn't be to worried with the compared with yours small amount
I'm leaning towards a slightly older Big Bang bike so I can do a few mods and the flash tune to be honest as I get bored to quick with a standard bike
Will also more than likely use it through the winter and smother it in acf50 and see how we come out the other side,

ACF50 Rocks !!!
& if you like modding the Sausage is the one for you , i've heard a few of the guy's that own the Sausage on about the suspension let's it down when you push it & then theres a mod to the rear linkage that Lee in scunny ( i think it is ) knows all about , your going to be having a good read of the 14b section ;)

Hi Raphael,Welcome to the forum.

with regards 2010 14b, like steve(cilla) said try a few out as they do tend to differ. i had a 2010 and it was just perfect with the forks working well and a great engine, after it was stolen i had a new 2013 and it also felt good. Sadly that was also taken from me by thieving scum cunts that feel they have the right to take what they want and f**k who they hurt in the mean time     (sorry got carried away there :shifty: ).
Anyway after the dust settled and the insurance claim got underway i was given a Brand new 14 plate to replace it, i Can honestly say the forks and rear are horrible and i cant wait to get them swapped out for ohlins or the like to make it the bike it should be.

Good luck with your search for a banger fella

I commute everyday on mine (5vy). Did have an r6 but that was too cramped for me. Easy to ride slow and very easy to ride too quick.Image

Welcome in mate. I commute during the summer on my 09 14B. It took a bit to adjust to the clutch at roundabouts and junctions but after a few tweaks to my riding style I love the bike. The noise and engine breaking are great and IMO it is the best looking R1 out there.

Yeah Pod & Damo are the forum Carbon Whores , what you can't tell from that pic is that the bike is covered in carbon to the extent that the weave all runs in the same direction i.e. the seat cowl weave follows the rear seat unit weave !
i'm not into so much carbon but the bike looks stunning

Pod you could have put up some better pictures ya lazy turd !
