Newbie - keen biker

Post by cooler »

Hi folks,

Just saying hello. My recent bike history is (current) 2000 R1, (current) 2000 Thunderace. Previously zx10r written off, GSXR 600 K3 written off, GSXR 750 WN sold at a good price, Kwaki 550 sold at a fair price. Before that it was Brits a long time back.

The R1 and Thunderace make an interesting pair to ride back to back. I'm thinking that a 2000 ish R6 would add to the variety and make for a nice red/white threesome in the garage. Going from the Ace to the R6 should be quite an experience!.

I'm a keen biker and have not been put off by the accidents, despite my advanced age. The applicable term (I think) is 'petrolhead'. I love revs and wouldn't have a Ducati thrown at me. :( Need the curve. :)

Alex.

Clarky,

Just about recovered after a year. Fractured left hand lacks movement (no more guitar playing) but can pull the clutch in. :)

I was taken to hospital by helicopter (no memory); woke up there. The Doc said "That helmet has done it's job!" I now give the air ambulance folks a direct debit, not really charity but saying thank you. Life savers.

So glad it wasn't the r1. :)

OK Folks, on to happier times.

The R1 is a minter, bought from a dealer three years back. This bike is the most perfect ride I've known and a scorching engine. I was always modding the zx10r but the first gen R1 is fine in stock form IMO. I wouldn't change a thing. On a private road the zx gave me 154mph from a standing start and the R1 152mph in the same distance. So much for that extra bhp. I love this bike.

Image

The Ace is just six months with me. Needed a little tidying. Some prof painting done and I could only get a blue seat cowl so that is painted too. Now she is close to mint and original. The Micron can is period with the bike and has a nice bark at the top end. BUT - the Ace is a weird fish. She feels very old tech compared to the R1 and is a lazy ride if you don't thrash it. Quite heavy and slow steering. Dyno shows 134bhp on full chat so can't complain about this example. Low miles too (11,000). Reminds me of a Blackbird or maybe Hayabusa in temperament. A motorway bike?

Welcome in Alex, very nice introduction

The ZX10 looks bad but glad yiu are on the right side of it and that it didn't put you off. Bikes are either in your blood, and whatever happens yiu will always have one, it they are not. They are definitely in your blood mate.

Giving my usual reply to newbies ... This is a really great site, peeps friendly and helpful, lots of good humour and pIss taking. Yiu have already met Colin, or Locke as he is known, he too is from Scotland, Colin, or colon as he is now known, as I sometimes get my o's and i's mixed up has a great sense of humour, so much so that the git Nick named me Cilla ... Still don't bloody understand that.

Any questions yiu have, someone will know the answer, or think they know the answer.

Anyway welcome and good luck with the search fjr the R6. I too have an R1 and alittle R6, the 6 comes out to play this time of year as she is mostly a winter bike now, but boy is she fun to ride, completely different to the R1

Anyway welcome for the third time now, sorry I'm rabbiting in as usual.

Cilla aka Stephen :P

Oh and the R1 and ace are beautiful  love the red and white colour scheme

hash,

I was on my favourite moorland rd. Long straights, curves and crests. No memory but a witness said "The front wheel went up, then he lost control". My guess is a power wheely on a crest and came down wrong. The 04/05 zx10r was notorious for this (Insurance industry in the US rated this model it as the worst for write offs of any bike).

It was fun for a while but I wouldn't have another one.

Thanks Moise,

26,000 which is a bit high for collector so I just ride it and keep it clean. In some ways I prefer a bike which has been ridden and looked after than one just stored for years, but we Brits seem to have a thing about mileage on sportsbikes. My insurers have given me £3,500 agreed value though.

I thought my 4xv had done 45000 kms when I bought it but then found out that it was miles, not kms! But it's in great condition so not too upset.

Hi Alex and welcome. One of the better bike forums this & I've been in a few! Unfortunately crumple zones on a bike include the rider but we're seldom put of by this. After my accident I told my dad "no more bikes" he said "yeah right, I'll give it a year and you'll have another one" Two weeks later I bought another one and I couldn't even ride it!!
