Just doing the decent thing and introducing myself; I'm Merrick - a 38 y.o Brit based in The Netherlands for the last 10 years and after a long string of Honda CBRs (just sold my 929) I'm preparing to go Yamaha in the spring...

Around Utrecht area (about 50km from Amsterdam). Given my budget and bike prices here, I'm looking at a 2002 - 2004 or thereabouts, possibly an earlier one if I find a really tidy one, but it will depend on what's out there when I'm looking.

Probably, yes - I'll be able to get a better bike /lower miles for the money, but by the time I factor in fuel, tunnel / ferry, trailer or van rental costs plus re-registering I'm back where I started to be honest. If I can organise the lend of a van it might be worth it, but then I effectively have to buy from a photo.

Thanks Clarky - I'll start looking in the spring if the exchange rate is looking helpful. If I can borrow a van from work for a weekend, even better!

Welcome in Merrick and good luck with the R1 hunting, you won't be dissapointed. I went from honda to yamaha over ten years ago and never looked back
