Newbie
Newbie
Hi, Just a quick intro.
Started riding in 1963, packed up after a few years of going too fast and crashing too often. Started again 20 odd years later on a GPZ600R, then a GSXR750, made the decision to give up bikes altogether in late 1996. Looked at a Superbike mag ln late 1997,saw a picture of the R1, changed my mind, ordered one, and took delivery in early 1998. I still have it in mint condition, all standard, 7500 miles. I also have a 1956 BSA Goldstar which I have built from a basket case, and it is now almost finished after about 5 years work.
I'd be interested to know what R1 would be worth if and when I decide to sell it, if anyone has any idea. It's the proper colour, red and white.
All the best to everyone and a very Happy Xmas

Re: Newbie
Hi,
Not ridden R1 since Sept 28 th 2011, when i went out with my best mate for a last ride of Summer (he was also on his R1). He came off about 100 yards in front of me and died at the scene. I think the family would be worried to, to say the least, if i were to go out on it again. However, next spring, who knows? I hope the Goldie is worth a few bob, it's cost me a fortune. I'ii post some pictures of both bikes when i've got a bit more time.
Regards

Re: Newbie
Welcome in Ted
Thats really bad about your mate , one of my pals lost a freind on a ride out & it really effected him , he didnt ride his Exup for a few years .
Nice intro & like the guys have said it'll be great to see your pics when you get chance .
As for price , thats a hard one at the moment as from what i've seen the early R1's seem to be going cheap , but then it depends on how original yours is .
I don't know a lot about prices but i'd guess for yours at between £2500-£3000 as i've said it only me guessing & they'll be a few of the lads along to put they're tuppence worth in
If you can keep hold of it because prices for early clean low mileage R's will go up .

Re: Newbie
Welcome, your R1 sounds nice. I have a blue one but it's done a few more miles - 47,000! Still looks great and goes well.
I can understand you not riding again. A mate had a motorcyclist die right outside his house in the country when a cop did a u-turn on a blind crest. He sold his BMW a few weeks later.

Re: Newbie
Welcome to the best forum Ted, I have find memories of my dads 1950's BSA so would love to see a pic of that and the R1. I too have a mate who lost a friend whist they were riding together, it hit him really hard, so I have an idea of how you feel. You may or may not get on your bike again, only you will know if the time is right or not. I can have days when I get the bike out, get a mile down the road and think, no this don't feel right and turn home, then there are other days when I'm like a pig in muck
.
As guys have said,my his is a fantastic forum, we come from all walks of life and each and every one of us have some knowledge and experiance to bring here and that's why the forum is good.
Best wishes
