Hi Everyone.
Just joined the forum having finally getting an R1 recently. Biking history spans a number of Yamaha twins, odd trail bikes, four cylinder mufti's plus an enduro and a supermoto. The R1 has an aftermarket pipe/silencer which I aim to replace with the standard downpipes/exup arrangement, also the pads are all shot. Leaning towards Brembo pads with the standard disks as I have had good experience with Brembp pads & calipers on other bikes. Has anyone else used this combination with promising results? At present it is only being used on the road, odd track days later perhaps but not at present.

Welcome in Ron nice list of bikes you had there,some pics would be good if you have some,not got a 4xv myself but a few on here have and im sure they'll be along to give you advice/help on their brake set up.......enjoy the site

Welcome to the forum Ron and congratulations on your recent purchase, a lot if the guts have an enormous amount if technical knowledge and will be able to answer your question re brakes and pads, sadly, as the guys know I was at the back of the queue when technical knowledge was being given out, but at the front regarding my sense of humour. This is an excellent forum, peeps very helpful and as I say knowledgeable so ask any questions you wish, some one will have the answer. There is loads if good humoured banter on here too,

Nice purchase , looking forwad to pic's of it & your other bikes .Can't help you on the pads front as i have Galfers with galfer pads & i think when changing them i may go for either standard oem or ebc HH from listening to the other guys & being an average rider .

Thanks Chiiny. Only 12 months between them but hopefully the R1 will come cleaner over the next few months with some tlc. Incidentally glad I transported it home by van when purchased, travelled back round M25 only to discover a 4cm nail in rear tyre when I washed it. Didn't see that in the advert.

Welcome. Your 4xv looks good, very original. How many miles?
One thing to bear in mind if you go back to a standard exhaust is that carbs were probably retted to make it run OK without the Exup.
I have Brembo pads on the rear of my other bike and they're very good. But sorry, no idea how they'd be on a R1.

Hi Moise, Happy New Year to The Land of the long white cloud where tomorrow comes first.
It has a shade under 28000 miles on the clock and I got the standard silencer can with it too. Thanks for the tip re the rejetting,according the last owner the replacement exhaust required no change to the carburation so fingers crossed for when the replacement bits arrive. Know a guy via work colleague who specialises in exup maint/refurbs so additional help from there too. Understand he travels to the UK from Spain specifically to maintain Yamaha exups for customers so should be good if anyone wants pointers?
The bike is pretty tidy for its age although stored in the elements here for 18 months previously and the aim is to keep standard as far as feasible. Suspension was 'set up' by 'specialist' firm in the uk for previous owners weight, fortunately similar to mine and seems to ride really well so that's a bonus too.

Many thanks for the useful urls's. I have a Yamaha 4xv workshop manual hardcopy and also softcopy pdf that I bought when the bike arrived, more than pleased to share the pdf if needed (plus 4xv supplement).

Duke is an absolute blast, owned from new, can see why guys love to race them. Real point and squirt machine, two wheeled equivalent of Lotus Elise I imagine, low weight, no frills just top spec original equipment for max grin but don't expect to go touring on it or do economic journeys, May have to go to make more room now in the garage though, Currently in 100% standard attire but have rare full set of carbon for it just for a change (long story).

I bought my 04 Duke 2 in 05 with £500 miles on the clock for £3600 , I'd was getting devorced & had to remortgage the house to pay her off & cover the dept she'd left me in , but instead of the debt I bought the KTM & loved it ! And it's been a real love hate relationship ! They beg to be wheelied but prolonged wheelies starve the mainstream of oil which I found out the hard way , £1700 rebuild
The thing that spoilt the KTM was the half one , when I was buying it one of the guys said it was like the KTM on steroids & they weren't wrong , the other problem was me ! I end up riding like a teat through traffic on it !

Already improved on the pic I posted which was on arrival day after a bucket of water. Now its seen some polish and looking better.

this is the Half one , aptly named by the lads on here because it not a whole R1 

As for the ktm i've had the main out put shaft bearing fail which took out one of the oil pumps , the front sprocket bolt sheer off so the front sprocket came off & wedged its self & the chain in the frame locking up the rear wheel & then as said the main bearings failed probably due to too many wheelies ( who'd have thought an enduro engine that doesn't like being at an angle ! ) which damaged the piston & a lot more , must say it was a fun bike but i find half one so much more stable & where the power peters off on the ktm the half ones just about to go mental

When you say you have a aftermarket system but are looking for a oem set . What system does it have fitted ? As if your selling I may be interested.

And from my viewpoint, I got a standard silencer can along with the bike but want to reinstate the standard downpipes and exup arrangement to recapture the midrange more. At present not sure how this might evolve so will be hanging onto the current pipes so unfortunately not thinking of selling at present. Sorry, but happy that you asked anyway. If offered a set elsewhere will ping you via the forum.
Ps The above arrangement currently fitted with a baffle allegedly needed no rejettng by the shop and is reasonably quiet although pops back a little on the overrun (pop but not snap or crackle). You can use it without the baffle however it is certainly significantly louder albeit not ear bleeding loud.
