newbie

Post by yamaha »

Hello everyone - new to the forum -i posted this morning on another topic and some kind soul suggested an intro on the newbie page (I hope I'm on it -me and computers don't match!)

Bit of history - I've been riding since i was 18 and reached the grand old age of 50 this year. i'm more of a track day addict then a road rider (sort of got things the wrong way around in life!) but have the odd blip now and then on the road but mostly track (13000 track miles last year on a road going r6 -yep you read that right!). Being 50 this year I decided to spend the kids inheritance (wife isn't happy!) and i have given myself a treat (well 2 actually)

I bought my first yamaha in 2006 (r1) brilliant piece of kit - I always had Hondas before that but I'm yamaha through and through these days. I have had several r1's since and the r6 which has been my favourite bike of all time. I certainly don't want to sound like a pretentious prxxk to anyone but being a track day addict and this year yamaha building something I've longed for (r1 engine in basically an r6 chassis) i decided life will truly begin for me at 50 and I'm now mr lucky (or mr greedy according to my so called mates) and now own the new r1 which I'm currently running in and in June i take ownership of the r1m (now you know why the wife isn't happy) (I told the kids I was buying a couple of bikes so i think they thought i meant push bike for them -anyone fancy explaining that one!). Both bikes will be tracked with the standard bike probably getting used most (circuits like donington an silverstone for the M.

anyway i hope i make a few friends on the forum (and no enemies) and maybe catch up with a few of you out and about
regards
andy

Hi Andy, fair play to you, I've been a long term Honda man and Track day rider too.

Really looking forward to the change to Yamaha, variety is the spice of life etc.

Donington and Silverstone are my favourite UK tracks.

I aint been here long, but all good lads even if they do take the piss

Welcome to the forum Andy

I don't think your location dictates your computer skills though  . I'm not so good with spellin either but I do like numbers :)

So congratulations on being one of the chosen few to get an R1M, sadly some of us were unfortunate to have missed out, but hay hoe ........ We can always buy the standard one, but just don't get me onto that subject of Yamaha's marketing again, last time I couldn't find my rag, I wasn't in the tree anymore, and my dummy wasn't in my mouth

Anyway, I for one are really pleased for yiu.

So 13,000 miles on a track day a year , is that about 65 annual track days ? , it would take 165 to get that kind of mileage at my speed

Anyway welcome to the mad house, the guys on here are great and always ready to help out, offer advice and the such. Mind you, with your experiance, I am sure you have your fair share of advice to give us.

Oh and being nifty fifty, that ain't old mate, not from where I am.

Welcome

Stephen :)

Thanks for the welcome people -went to rockingham yesterday just to watch (no limits track day) was tempted to join the back of the queue and give the r1 a taste of things to come but then thought "she's only got 300 miles on her" "best wait to next month". As it turned out, MCN were there doing a track day shoot out with a couple of bikes and yes one was the R1 -I don't know the guy, but have seen a couple of his reports on youtube and in the mag, so I jumped right in and asked what he really thought of it.........words of "unbelievable" and "fantastic" quickly left his mouth. - I went straight back home to tell the wife the goods news.......she's still not amused! oh well!
