Just a quick hello from me, a former R1 owner (98, 2000 and 2002) who's about to return to the fold with a 2015 model on Friday.

To be honest, it was my third choice after the Duc 1299S and Aprilia RSV4-RF but things happen for a reason - the Duc is just too expensive and no stock until September anyway and the new RSV4 was being supplied by a dealer who offered a derogatory value for my part-ex (2013 RSV4 Factory ABS) - funny really when you consider I bought it from him in the first place :evil:

No matter, can't wait until Friday - I've moved from a very pretty bike with excellent handling, lots of Ohlins and brembo bling and a (probably justified) reputation for fragility to one with questionable looks but gets rave reviews from all who've ridden it - not ridden it myself yet (no demo at local dealers - seven out of eight non-M's sold instantly, I got the last one) so even more of a gamble :shock:

Site looks great by the way.
Looking forward to reading more.

Welcome, it will be Very Interesting to hear how the bikes compare. I suspect the Aprillia might be the better road bike but you'll know soon!

Welcome in Steve, you haven't bought a red one from Wigan Yamaha by any chance, if yiu have you beat me to it by a day, was looking at it and humming and aring and then went to buy it and it had sold the previous afternoon...........

Anyway, you have a beautiful bike coming, and believe me, those looks will grow on you, I hated the look of it at first, but I now love it.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, this site is just as good as Yamaha's, nay it's even better :) guys are very knowledgable and helpful , any questions just ask

Thanks for the welcome lads.

I'd love to keep the Aprilia (if only for the noise and looks) but no way I could afford both the RSv and R1!
I've gone for the blue R1 - my first two were blue as well and the red with those disc carriers and pink hose running across the left side of the motor just look a little, errrr...tacky? ;)

I'll try and get a picture of them both together when the R1 arrives - they look very similar in size and both have a tall seat height (I'm 6' 4" so that's a good thing) - the Aprilia is a bit on the heavy side but hides it well on the move and feels planted - if the R1 comes close I'll be very happy, I know it's a lot lighter which can only help.

Bike is from Ian Bells up north - great dealers btw and just heard they have a cancelled order in red if anyone's interested :dance:
They'll also deliver and offer a cracking deal on p/ex (well, compared to other northern dealers anyway - got £3000 extra compared to Aprilia supplying dealer!).



Extras.
Well, it deserves an exhaust - the akra slip on looks and sounds decent and that AR video on YouTube (GP2?) sounds insane but no good for the track!!
Maybe an evotech tail tidy and paddock stand bobbins for now until I see how I get on with the bike.


Worth mentioning that I think we"re well spoilt in the 1000cc class currently - almost impossible to buy a bike that isn't excellent.Madness when bikes as accomplished as the Blade and GSXR are ignored and ZX10s and S1000's just 'ok'.

There are indeed some bargains at the moment. Gixxer thous are very cheap and are certainly not a bad motorcycle.

Well, R1 has arrived in a van.

Only two miles on the clock so hoping to increase that tomorrow!


First impressions....definitely feels lighter just pushing around and loading into a van but the RSV4 definitely sounds better, has nicer touches and the finish is slightly better.
I said it when images of the R1 first appeared and I haven't changed my mind after owning it for an hour - it's no beauty but it's deliberately 'different' and the LED sidelights and TFT clocks are cool!

Just need to set aside a week or so to digest the manual detailing the electronics - I thought the Aprilia was awkward but got two pages through the Yamaha instructions and fell asleep :D

Still, proof is in the pudding and it's all about the feel when riding otherwise we'd all sell up and sit and look at our Panigales all day. ;)



Edited to add: the wife and teenage daughter hate the look of the R1 which is a GOOD thing - leaves the door open for possibly changing back to the RSV4-RF next year. :lol:
Even this morning I was having doubts as the R1 was on the way down the A1, have I done the right thing etc etc - this has happened before over the years as I tend to make snap decisions over bikes but time heals and I'm sure I'll grow to love the Yam :dance:
