Hello everyone ..

Post by mc101 »

Hi all,

Came across this place from TDR. Just dropping in to say hello.

Currently racing a 2015 R1 following the last few years on HP4, ZX10R and APRC ... Come and say hello if you see us trackside during 2015. Quick picture below if I've done things properly ... First time out about two weeks ago...

Cheers Mark

Thanks for the welcome guys ....

I wrote this for another forum following my first couple of days on it, its first proper race is this weekend at Snetterton :-)

So, I've actually finally ridden the very nearly finished 2015 ... I also raced a ZX10R and a HP4 last year.

The R1 has had the following work done:

Hand made Ti decat, hand made Ti end can (both setons design to keep bhp and get <105dB)
Fuelling (PC5 till ECU reflash developed)
ECU reflash (work in progress but 6th limiter removed)
QA Throttle
Z04 pads
KTEC DDS shock
MCT Forks revalved and resprung
DBR Rearsets (Seton Design)
DBR Clipons (Seton Design)
520 chain conversion (with a few sprocket combos)
PFM Rear Disks (for Dymags)
PFM Front Disks (for Dymags)
Carbon Brake Lever Guard
CRC Fairings
Paint by Pete Trayler

Still TBC:

YEC ECU
YEC Y-TRAC
YEC Loom
YEC Cams
YEC Crank

On the same Dyno in almost identical conditions is makes a few BHP more than the HP4 (but only a few). The difference is how it gets there .. it pulls peak BHP to the redline. At 10,000 rpm it makes 13 bhp more than the HP4. They end up remarkably close at the top end.

When being ridden the things thats really noticeable is that mid range - from the apex its pretty phenomenal and allied to the electronics it actually does feel noticeably faster. At the end of the straight its a gnats c*ck in it.

The electronics package is quite alot more sophisticated than the HP4 - more akin to the APX3 derivative found on the Aprilia APRC. Even wound right back the bike permits a rear wheel slide then pulls a wheelie at the end of the slide once it gives all the bhp back - it does it super smoothly - almost like your fully in control.

An important thing -- its small. Very very small. Think a 200bhp+ R6 and your on the money. Its also under STK 1000 weight limit -- its light, very light in race trim. This probably contributes to the immense sense of shove it has off the turns. It also turns and rides like a 600, it devours corner speed like I didn't think was possible on a 1K bike.

Build quality is lovely, substantially better than Kawasaki and marginally better than BMW.

Oh that dash, what a dash :-)

And that noise ... :-)
