barnett clutch plate coversion

Post by Bubba1968 »

hi dudes n dudets i have fitted a barnett six spring conversion to my 99 r1 but the clutch bites to close to the bars , i have been told that
a tdm lever being 10mm longer fixes this problem does anyone know the best year to go for as the newer ones have a bent lever compared to the straight lever of the older models , any info much appreciated chrz.

Welcome in
I''m going to be doing this conversion myself hopefully & haven't got a clue about the tdr lever but I would be contacting barrnet to find out why my £120 clutch conversion wasn't working how it should !
P.s this is the newbie section we expect a bit about yourself , biking history & hopefully a couple of pics of your bike(s) & then you go off to the appropriate section to ask questions ;)

No worries Bob
Personally mate I think as the bikes in bits you should start your own thread in the projects section , I'd be interested in following your progress . As for pictures get yourself a free photobucket account & there's a how to thread in the forum guidelines section on how to post pics using photobucket , if you can't find it I'll link it in a bit for you as im in bed on the mobile at the MO .
there's a few things that you need to know about the 4xv so you NEED to have a bloody good read through the 4xv section and also the 5jj section as they're more or less the same bike other than bodywork & the added AIS on the 5jj .
DO NOT.tighten the sump plug up to 42 nm as stated in the service & Haynes manuals unless you want a cracked sump its at least half that figure & while the bikes in bits behind the left hand fairing panel there's the main 20 pin wiring loom connector which is white & is known as the route of all evil as the corrode and cause problems , give it a good clean & grease ;)

Ohh although the links to download the 4xv & 5jj manuals in the 4xv & 5jj sections are broken there should be a link to view them on PDF online once you've opened the PDF up there's an option to down load the PDF file , any problems with getting them just pm me your Email & i'll send them to you

chrz jompy will give the 4xv section a good read over spose every bike has its ins and outs regarding specific problems , i will find them out as they occur.
the bike is on the road now and i am liking it more everytime i go out, cant believe the weight difference compared to the the barge (xjr)
should have got an r1 years ago.

I love mine , its got no fairings & risers renthals instead . There's tons to learn about them , stuff like what is a straight swap from a 5jj & what to keep an eye out for . You get a LOT of bang for your buck h they're a lovely well mannered bike until you give it a big twist !
