Welcome to the forum Shane, and as Dave says just type what comes into your head, Dave does, but then his head is mostly empty .

This is a great forum, peeps get out what they put in, so join in the banter and enjoy.

Also start by telling us a bit about yiur riding history, you race? In which series, we have a few racers in here.

Also post up some pics of your bikes, don't be shy regarding it being a Honda, we promise not to take the p!ss, well not much anyway.

Those 4xv's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 5jj like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , the HT leads can break up when old where the plug cap screws on & cause misfire all you need to do is cut 5-10 mm off the end & screw the cap back on , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .

I'm now the proud owner of a 98 R1 that I'm hopping to race next year
It is totally stock
Apart from
K&N
Quickshift
Ohlins rear and ohlins fork internals
And tuning advice would be great and after a set of good Aftermarket headers
Dyno time not an issue as I do have my own Dyno aren't I lucky

Saw a gap in the traffic on the dual carriageway thought i'll have that ! Nails it back end squats tyre looses traction moves a few inches before I can rein it in sort that & the the front end won't stay down , f**k me I love my half-one

hi shane, i race my 5jj, there is alot you can do to get the bike singing, .. the power is all in the top end for these, porting & polishing only polish the exh side tho, knife edging the ports cutting down the valve guide, kent cams (yam17) dialed in at 105/101, +4 ign advancer, run total loss, set of flatsides, ram air, try and locate an CDI that has the rpm ceiling raised, full system dyno'd to suit all the mods, match the weight of your conrods & pistons, and a good refresh on all mains, rings, big ends and head,
this is pretty much what my mate has within his 4xv and he is dyno'd at over 193bhp (at the crank)
it IS possible to get upto 170bhp (at the crank) out of a stock motor and nothing really done apart from bolt on parts like system ign advancer etc.. just by tuning the carbs,
i found raising my yokes 10mm has sped up the turn in, slaps a bit more but just turn the damper on more,
