New to R1's and forums, saying hello!

My names Chris and i am from up in Scotland, just got a 2009 14b R1 in black/matte black, just coming off a 2008 blade so big change in bikes just trying to get to grips with it and working out what to modify on the R1 for the best? already got full akras but need to sharpen up suspension and the brakes, anyone else come from a 2008 blade to a R1?

Welcome to the forum Chris , I think Barton on here came from a blade to an R1. How do you find the throttle on your sausage, let me explain, Big Bang R1 = banger, banger is slang for sausage, so some on here call the bangers sausages, anyway, it can be a tad snatchy and takes some getting used to, however it's worth persevering because they are a fantastic bike, shed loads of character and a sound track worthy of Rossis M1

I was wondering what the f*%k yous were all on about sausages...........

It is a bit snatchy at low revs and in town it doesnt ride that great, the full akra system wont be helping i doubt as it doesnt have a power commander and i doubt the ecu has been flashed. Got a dynojet dealer on the door step so going to go and see him and see what its up to. The clutch is also grabby on take off but have looked into the graves kit so give that a bash too i think

Yeah same thing , flash tune as I believe is a brand name .

Welcome in mate. Where abouts are you I'm just outside Glasgow. I've had my 14B for a couple of years and managed to adjust to the snatchy throttle and have done a couple of track days and loved the bike. I'm looking to de cat the bike over the winter and I'm in two minds wether to go for the FlashTune or PCV. I have only heard good things about FT but the ECU in the post makes me nervous.

Im up North around the Inverness area mate, Yeah its taking a bit of getting used to been out a lot the last few weeks, i actually still have my 08 blade and I am wondering if im doing the right thing jumping across, need to decide so i can sell either or, absolutley love the note of the R1 but the rest is so different from what i am used to, been doing lot of re-search on what to do with the bike, all the guys on here have been full of great info, have a look at the velox section, R1mike got back to me with the way to go about flashing. I need to give him a call and have a chat with him.

Welcome My advice is be careful if you adjust the standard suspension, they are independent of each other, they have a different job. If you wind the screws equal as you might expect it will not go around corners, so read up. What you do on the front do the oposit on the rear.
As for mapping, flashing will smooth the throttle and is a cheaper option if you want add ons. The PCV gives you the luxury of being able to change the map anywhere and Yamaha can still access your ECU, flashing locks yamaha out.
