Another Newbie with a 5vy

Post by watzy160 »

Hey Peeps.

Thanks for letting me in. I signed up alittle while ago but haven't had a chance to actually get on here.

Anyway, My names Wayne and i purchased my dream bike end of last year. I have an '06 50th Anniversary which is like new. I bought her with just 156miles from new. I've only managed to do a gingerly 50 miles so far. But when the weather gets better i will be taking her out for some quality bonding time! :D

I will get some pics up as soon as i can but i'm very limited to time with work and house renovations etc at the moment.

We have a great sense of humour on here so join in and have a laugh, also any questions, just ask, someone will have been there, done that and got the t shirt to boot, we all know Jompy, aka monkey face, is the expert when it comes to tightening sump bolts because his ham fisted monkey hands have over tightened quite a few  so the silly monkey now knows not to do that and is very happy to share his new found knowledge with any members it would help, and believe me he has stopped quite a few of us going down the same road as he did

Enjoy the forum, join in and have a laugh... But above all enjoy that beautiful anniversary 5vy you have :D

Welcome

Welcome along Wayne! Beautiful 5vy you have there mate, I've had the same and loved it, had it from new and enjoyed 7 years with it.

However Wayne if I may offer you a little advice, I see in the photos that the bike has the original (michelin pilot powers I think) tyres fitted, now if they are the 'actual original' tyres fitted I would get them changed as they will have gone off (ie: the rubber will have gone hard) therefore could let you down in the handling department. I ran metzeler racetecs on mine and they were fantastic. Enjoy! :D

Nice bike. That was my second choice colour scheme.
Its unbelievable how these bikes can have such low miles.
Why do people buy things they are not going to use?
An old workmate of mine used to buy every new model of CBR600 when they came out.
He hardly used his bikes and was either saying it was too wet , too cold or believe it or not too hot!!
The last bike that he traded in had under 600 miles on it and it was traded for another CBR600. Mental.

That is a great looking bike!

Can I suggest investing in some crash protection? I'd hate to see that bike damaged.

So after reading some other newbie posts etc, it's dawned on me that i haven't given much in the way of my bike history or details of me.
So for all you good fella's that are interested, here goes![emoji28]

So i've had bikes from about 10/11yrs old. Mostly mopeds to burn around the fields local to where i grew up. First geared bike was a TS50ER, i loved it. But i have no pics. [emoji21]
Done my CBT as soon as i was 16, rode a V50M (i think that's what it was) for a short time and then went on to an RD50 that i built.
Image
Image
Image
As soon as i was 17, i booked my test and passed. [emoji12] And my next bike was this TZR125. I also bought as abit of a shitter so i rebuilt it and rode it for about a year or so.
Image
Image
I then went onto FZR250, which was cool.[emoji2] [emoji41]
Image
Image
I then went on to an FZR400rr, this bike was awesome! I absolutely loved it. Handled and rode fantastic.
Image
Image
To be honest, it's the one bike i still to this day regret selling. [emoji17]
I then went onto a ZXR750H1, i actually wanted a YZF750 but the insurance was far too much and this ZXR came up locally which was cheaper to insure. A lovely bike with just 7000 miles when i bought it. My pal now owns it.Image
Image
I then got myself a ZX7R. Again a lovely bike, so planted. Although rather on the heavy side, i could ride it with total confidence. It was a blast! [emoji7] [emoji1] [emoji108]
Image
Unfortunately, this is where my bike history ends for about 12 years. I got very ill with cancer in '04 and had about 2 years of treatment etc. I didn't think i would be about to ride the zx7 anymore so i sold it shortly after being diagnosed. But fortunately i got through all that sh!t! [emoji2] [emoji106] But life, marriage(with the wrong chick), kids, work, house and finances got in the way or took over and i didn't really get an opportunity to get myself another bike.

After a divorce, job change, getting myself finacially stable and a new house. I finally got myself back on track! [emoji16] And that's when i bought the r1.[emoji2] So i must admit, it does feel like i've dived in the deep end with buying a litre bike and maybe an r6 would have been a more sensible choice. But now being 37yrs old i think i'm sensible and don't think i'm invincible. So hopfully i can build my confidence on her and become as comfortable and confident as i was with the zx7r.[emoji28] [emoji106]
