Nico, 42, Parisian, waiting for my 1M !

Post by Eko »

Hello,

I'm Nico, 42, living in Paris.
I ride motorcycles on a daily basis since I'm 14... Ok at 14 it was moped, but it still counts !
After thinking that Honda was the only brand on earth, for a while I agree, I managed to change, try and own a few other different brands.

The result is I have no religion in the motorcycle space, every brand has its values, and is worth trying.

Right now I own 2 Harleys, 2 Hondas, 1 Yamaha and I have a Ducati in mind. Some of these are vintage.

My trackways history is light, I did a few during 2 years a few years ago, and I liked it a lot and some time ago, I figured I wanted to do trackways again. And at 42 I guess it's the proper time to do it again, if not the last time, I'm afraid to become too reasonable to do it later. So when I saw the R1, I fell in love, the design of the bike is amazing, and whenI discovered the R1M and the YRE, I thought the bike is almost a bargain considering the equipment.

So here I am, expecting my new R1, which is supposed to be delivered... May 3rd.

I'm counting the days.

A few pics to share with you past and present bikes.

Welcome Nico. Is France not very strict with motorcycles/riders?

Our bikes are limited to 100HP for more than 20 years, but since Jan 1st, if the bike is Euro4, we don't get the limitation anymore ! Freedom's back !!!

BUT...

The R1 is Euro3, so government must sign a law which says that Euro3 bikes can be unlimited again IF they also have anti lock braking.
Long story short, the law was supposed to be signed in Jan, and is not as of today, so we have no clue when it will be. It means that even if the bike were at the dealer shop, I wouldn't be able to get it...

Hi Nico, thanks for popping over to the newbies section from the R1M section to introduce yourself    cracking opening post with pictures of some beautiful bikes. I hope you get your R1M soon and that your politicians get the necessary laws changed so you can pick up an unrestricted R1M, I don't know what French politicians are like but over here they are only interested in one thing...... What they themselves want...... So if we were waiting for such a law to be passed we would have to wait forever

Anyway welcome and enjoy your R1M when she arrives, in the meantime, join in the banter on the forum :D

I still have it and I'm driving it every week in Paris and around. Love the bike, it's 70.000km now. Start like a charm. Always amazing those Honda when they were made in Japan.

The first Fireblade came out when I got my license, of course I couldn't get one at the time, so I bought it later :-)

I remember when it came out, the main engineer explained that the holes on the top of the body next to the lights were to reduce the air resistance when going from a corner to another. At this exact minute I wanted one. Those guys are crazy.

Nico, Jompy is our resident primate and he sometimes gets his words mixed up, what he meant to say is

You guys are nice to be good with animals.
Especially monkeys.

Let him live free and wild. And fed him with one beer 3 times a day.

Riding in Paris is a daily pleasure, and require some sort of seventh sense, acquired with time !
I bet it would be the same in London. If you can accommodate to the side of driving.

Hi Nico,
Quick question, when did you order your bike?
And riding in London is nowhere near as crazy as riding on the "periferique"

Hey,
I've ordered the bike in October and we were laughing with the dealer about the end of March max delay...

Now we don't laugh anymore!
They told me May 3rd the latest. But with french regulation, I'm not sure they can deliver the bike...

Long story short, I start to look elsewhere...

Mine was confirmed on the 4th of November (order), and I have a delivery on the 9th of May (bike ordered and delivered in France) the dealer didn't see to have any problems regarding delivering the bike, having said that I won't road register it so that might be the reason

I've explained it in another topic, until jan 1st we had a law saying the max power is 100hp, since jan 1st for euro4 bikes we don't have this anymore because it's a european regulation indeed.

The issue is the r1 is euro 3 so they must create another law saying the retrofit if possible for euro3 bikes.

In clear, unleashing the power.

The law is written, ready to sign and was supposed to be signed in jan, but as you can imagine no politician wants to put his name on this paper.

But yamaha has anticipated the signature and has built full power euro 3 bikes for France... Which are now not street legal!

To give you an example, yamaha dealers have tons of mt09 in stock and cannot deliver it to the customers because of this...

Fun situation, no??

I always did think the French 100hp law was crap but then I think of how fast the 4xv is and think maybe it's not so mad , thank f**k we don't have it here

Had a discussion with my dealer in France.
So the law has been signed early March however before it is effective a number of things still need to happen and are yet to happen in the mean time the bike are not even sent to the distributors.

My dealer is hopeful that the law will be published next week (first step of a two step process before euro3 bikes can be delivered)
So if your bike is due end of April, you should be just fine.
I just hope they won't send our bikes over to the U.K. Due to the delay.

You want to know the best even my bike which won't be road registered can't be delivered before the issue is fixed as Yamaha France won't let my dealer have it......

Ah ma belle France.....
