New around here.

Post by Simon gixer thou »

Hi just wanted to introduce myself. Currently own a millionth edition Gixer thou. That won't be going anywhere but I'm expecting my 60th anniversary R1 in the next couple weeks. First Yamaha I've had having been a Suzuki man for years.

Got a couple questions. My insurance asked me to get a sold secure lock firstly what do people recommend and how much storage is there under the rear seat?

Here's a pic of the gixer probably not to everyone's taste but it's one of the last super bikes with no rider aids on it.

Hi mate, welcome in. I came from Suzuki to Yamaha, you will not be disappointed. I prefer the MotoGP rep to the Z myself but each to their own. Are you from Scotland?

Cheers. I'm more into the rarer bikes. Only 1 of these up here. Yeah I'm around Aberdeenshire. How about yourself.

Glasgow mate. How many Z's were made in the 1000? There is one in the Glasgow area I have saw riding about.

Was in not less than 20 in the UK though? Did you not have to apply to get offered one?

I remember it being 1 per dealership or something like that. My dealer got 1 and called me straight away knowing full well I'd buy it straight away. Love the bike it's my second thou I had a k9 first. I have been to Europe on it it's a great all round bike. I tried the R1 just to see what like it was and fell for it. Couldn't bring myself to sell the gixer though.

Loved the K9 nice bike apart from the exhausts! The YoshiGPs were nice on it though. The white colour scheme for the L0 was nice.

Welcome to the forum Simon, cracking GSXR you have there and cracking opening post   whilst this is an R1 forum we'll love all bikes so your Suzuki is as welcome as any other bike including a Yamaha, the anniversary R1 you are getting looks the dogs. Regarding the amount if room under the pillion seat, I know that in tha M version there is no room at all as it's taken up by the gps thingie they have, perhaps one of the guys with the 2015 R1 can give you some indication of how much space they have, must admit I'm not pleased that I won't be able to carry a disc lock on my new M

Anyway welcome

Stephen

Welcome to the site Simon, the white Gixxer looks lush. Regarding the Sold secure lock, do they mean a chain or disc lock? If it's a disc lock then you could get it in a bum bag around your waist. I use an Oxford Omega Thatcham approved disc lock and it isn't that large. :)

Hi Simon, welcome to the forum.
Nice Gixxer, I find the build quality a bit poor compared to the Yamaha's, but the Gixxers are awesome real world bikes having a great suspension set up for the road(in my humble opinion). :handgestures-thumbupleft:

Cheers for the welcome. I can't wait to get the bike I have been told by the dealer it's due on the 18th so I'm flying home on the 21st to pick it up and run it in over the weekend before flying back to work on the Monday.

Welcome in Simon, There are a good few Gixxer fans on here, Ive sold my R1 and now ride a k6 600 track only. I am sure you will love the New R1 however nothing is like the stuff Suzuki make.

Enjoy ;)

Welcome in mate, nice Gixxer that :D , ive removed my cat and exup cables and the servo motor ( which lives under the seat) you might squeeze in a smallish disc lock if you remove like i did,but with the servo motor in place ya aint even gonnae get a packet o fags in there, also the Yamaha seats are held in place by allen bolts so youd need tae carry the allen key on your person tae remove the seat tae get at the lock assuming you remove the servo motor and assuming you can finds one small enough tae fit in there phew, ye get a bumbag for the lock lol, enjoy the new bike , they are f ing awesome

Cheers for the info. I'll probably get a bags connection tank bag keep the wallet phone and a disc lock in it. I'm not really a fan of wearing a fanny pack.
