Hi guys, I sold my last 1998 Blue R1 with less than 7000 miles and in mint condition in 2011 when I wasn't thinking very clearly. However I have located a fairly sad cosmetic "T" reg blue R1 with 39,000 miles but very comprehensive service history. I'm paying £1300 which I don't know whether that's good or bad. My aim is to return it to standard spec so I hope to be able to call upon members from time to time for advice. Incidentally I'm probably the oldest R1 riding member here at 73, riding from the age of 16 and owning bikes from Triumphs to ZX10's with a couple of Tuonos thrown in for good measure. Currently riding an R1200GS on which I tour a lot and still camp!!

Hi welcome ,age is just a number if it makes you happy and alive do what you want ,good luck with your new R1 ,maybe start a thread on the " rebuild"

Welcome to the forum Neil, you have been riding for 57 years, so you started the year before I was born , we do have another member on here who is in their seventies so you are not on your own, quite a few of us are in our fifties and our average age, when we calculated it just over a year ago was 41 so we are not all young things on here, but as Sam says, age is a mere number and bikes keep us young.

So welcome to the forum, with your riding experiance and knowledge you will be a good edition to our community. Join in the banter and have a laugh too

Many thanks for the welcoming replies guys. I will try and post some pictures of my progress with bringing the bike back to original. Incidentally I have just noticed she is 17 today! Could someone please tell me exactly the model she is known as - is she a 5JJ or something else, I cannot find a clue from the VIN number. Thanks once again guys.

Why oh why did you sell the 4xv ???
Looking forward to your projects thread , post a pic up & someone will tell you what model it is although theres a lot of similarities between the 4xv & 5jj

I've just discovered she's a 4XV7. Selling the last XV was a moment of madness, replaced by a ZX9R which I really enjoyed and toured on but not a real substitute for my R1.
