Hi,
I don't have an R1 yet. A few years back when I had my SRAD750 I rode a mates 98 R1. I really liked it compared to the 750 and I went on to love the 750 on track. then I had to get a 600 to go racing for a few years. So now I'm in the market for a road/track bike and don't like any new stuff and don't want another SRAD as it just wouldn't be the same as the previous one so I'm looking for a 98-01 R1.
As most of my working day seems to consist of looking at bike forums I thought I join this one too so I can soak up some useful info so I can make a purchase soon.
Currently have a Ducati 916 (which is a keeper), Daytona 675 race bike (for sale soon) and an XR400R off roader which is for sale.
cheers

Welcome in Steveo
Don't worry buddy they let any old riff raff in these days
personally i think the 5jj 00-01 is the better bike for the road due to the extra midrange other than that the 4xv 98-99 and 5jj are more or less the same bike .
I take it your on the ducatiforum.co.uk then ?
you'd best get some pics up of the 916 & xr400
"get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/
1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.
or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum

Re: prospect
I love my 4xv. Such a fun bike for the road. A good 5jj will probably be easier to find and cheaper than a 4xv, but my suggestion would be a 99 4xv.
Thanks for the intro and photos. Why not put the 675 back to road trim, or have you gone too far?

Re: prospect
I got the 675 as a track bike so it's got no road gear. I've since chucked loads of bits at it to make it a racebike, but TBH I never really wanted it, I brought it 'cos I thought i needed it to be abit more competitive 'cos my gsxr6 was SOOOOO Slow... and because it's only ever been a racer, not sure if I could ride it "sensibly" on the road.Moise wrote:I love my 4xv. Re: prospect
Welcome to the forum Steve, sorry I missed the origional post, I was too busy looking for the brick I inadvertently through out of my pram
, mind you to be fair I did find the rag I lost just before I fell out if my tree
Anyway looks like you are getting a cracking R1 there, I love that colour scheme and you already have a spare set of wheels, let us all know what she is like when you get her home.
Welcome , join in the fun and ask any questions you like, we even have discussions on here regarding the meaning of life..... They are the interesting ones
Anyway welcome
Stephen
You have a great name btw
