Hello from Buckinghamshire

Post by Mr. F »

Hi R1 Forum,

Here's a picture of my brand spanking new R1, yet to be completely run in.

Well, I wanted to share a picture but I can't for the life of me work out how to do it. I've got some photos in Google Photos and tried copying the link in but I still think the photo is private and not publically shareable.

The bike isn't going to be on the road for too long as I bought it as a track toy. Initially, I'll be doing some standard additions like crash protection, rad and oil cooler guards. Next on the list will be EGP blanking plates, Austin Racing exhaust and exhaust servo removal. Then will come the track fairing and THEN hopefully some data logging solution. Of course, I shall be detailing the progress of it all on here plus on my YouTube channel http://youtube.co.uk/c/mrfaffington" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Welcome in simon
Heres how to post pics so you'd best get some up & of the KTM's
get yourself a free photobucket account & follow the idiots guide to posting pics from your pc
posting.php?mode=reply&f=6&t=10659
if you don't want to open a photobucket account then an alternative is go to
http://tinypic.com/

1 - "choose file" and browse to the image you wish to upload from your PC
2 - In the "resize" drop down choose either 15" or 17" screen (15 is enough and fast too)
3 - Press "upload now" where it will ask you to type in a couple of words to confirm you are a human being and not an automated program.
4 - Once done copy the text from the "IMG Code for Forums & Message Boards" field
5 - Then just paste it exactly as is in to your message.

or you can post direct from your not so smart phone using tapawank (tapatalk) it's great for posting pic's & notifications but wank for viewing the forum ;)
and if you want to post from youtube
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=71

Thanks for the welcome.

Here's the pic I wanted to post earlier. I took it at Stowe near Silverstone I think the weekend I got the bike.

Image

Am hoping to get some advice on where I can get a decent air filter from. I've done a bit of Googling and have found a couple but would be interested in peoples thoughts. Also am looking for a good tuner for when the exhaust is fitted. I've read quite a bit about the FT ECU reflashes but to get a decent tune it needs to be done on the dyno and not just an off the shelf job.

Anyway, hope you enjoy the picture.

Oh jompy, I don't have the 1290 anymore, I sold it and got a S1000RR which is my road bike now. Bloody excellent machine at pretty much anything except off-road, I think it'd struggle there.

Welcome MrF, excellent choice of steed :D

Out of curiosity what tracks will you be running at with them mods? Just asking because of noise limits... I've just returned to the uk after living away and it seems now that an over zealous fart down the back straight can land you in trouble with the noise police...I guess if the cat is staying then all may be ok though.

So I am planning on running the Austin Racing GP1R exhaust. When I was looking at their exhausts for the BM but I was concerned about the noise they said they do baffles which are in the link pipe to help keep the noise down. I only ever really go to noisy track days anyway, so as long as they can get it near 105db I shall be happy. Am off to Motorcycle Live next weekend and they'll be there so was planning on asking them a few questions.

Will add it to this thread.

Right better leave this one before I get the soap box out about people who move to a venue that occasionally has noisy events on and then complains about it!

Cracking bike, best colour of course as it is the same as mine ;)

Baffles in the cat pipe hurt the power a lot also a pain in the ass to fit and remove if you are planning to take in and out, better off with a can that is track friendly to start with (can do you a Spark Titanium 102db for a good price) or one that can have a baffle put in the end of the can.

Let me know if you want to chat about FTecu and activetune which will get you close to dyno results as you can get, and also can be used on the dyno by pretty much any good dyno operator.

Hi Mike,

I really like the look of the Austin Racing GP1R exhaust so the plan is to get the exhaust to the right noise level and tune the bike suit the exhaust and air filter. Once it's tuned I probably won't mess about with baffles, as I said I don't really do any track days that have a 98db limit. That said it'd be nice to get a price on the Spark exhaust, it's not a manufacturer that I am familiar with.

Any recommendations on air filters?

Re FTecu I've been looking at their stuff and wanted to now if the ECU can be live tuned rather than reflashed? I saw your video the other day about the ECU logging but it looked like only a subset of data that can be seen across the CAN BUS. Do you know if you can add channels to that output? Also, can you change the output from a line graph to tables or 3D maps?

Cheers,

Mr. F

Don't tell the guys I said this but those s1000rr's are meant to be a bit of kit but far too much plastic for me ;)
I built the new offices for KTM UK recently and got to take a 1290 superduke se out for a spin , by f**k what a mid-range but I wouldn't swap my half-one for it !

Probably not a popular thing to say here but I think the S1000RR is the best all-round sports bike out there. That said I think the R1 is probably the best sports bike for the track, which is why I bought one.

The KTM 1290 SDR it probably the most torque I have ever felt from a motorcycle, they're really comfortable too and superbly fueled. At the time though I was getting into track days in a bigger way and I could only afford one bike, so I needed a jack of all trades and the S1000RR fit the bill perfectly. Turned out it was a good move as my mate has one and it seems to have had a few issues which isn't really right considering the price tag.

If you're using tapatalk just select the 'tick' at the top of the thread or forum you're looking at. Not so sure about the regular site .... probably a 'follow' button you can select??

Hahaha definitely subscriptions to forum feeds, although I'd take extra subs to the YouTube channel.

Other forums I've joined it seems to be obvious to set up subscriptions to at least your own posts. Can't seem to figure it out here.
