Newbie from Shetland

Post by Sheltie333 »

Hello everyone, another new user to this forum.

I come from the beautiful island of Shetland but currently live/work in Aberdeen. I have been biking on and off for the last 20 years or so (on/off road) and currently own a CBR600RR7 and have a 2017 R1M on order (can't wait). I came across this forum when researching reviews/advice for various components for the R1/M and found this site to be extremely helpful but equally hard on the bank account! Currently gathering everything I need for the R1M before it arrives, this includes:

- GB Racing Covers
- Endurance Screen (Quite tall)
- Paint Protection Film
- Techspec Tank Pad Set
- Evotech Performance Front Fork Spindle Bobbins
- Evotech Performance Rear Spindle Bobbins
- Evotech Performance Radiator Guard Set
- Evotech Performance Crash Protection Bobbins
- Evotech Performance Tail Tidy

Parts to come at a later stage:

- Akrapovic Slip-On
- Akrapovic Y-Link Pipe
- LighTech Chain Adjusters
- ECU Flash
- Auto-Blipper

I'll do my best to share any progress along the way once my the R1M arrives.

Thanks for reading.

Welcome to the forum Jack and congratulations on having an M on order, they are a fantastic bike. I hav etye ackra slip on on mine, but I didn't fit the link pipe purely down to noise, it is very very loud .

There has been a lot if talk on here that the CCU wifi no longer works with Apple products, it didn't fit a while, when you connect your iPhone or iPad it will tell you that there is no wifi signal, however if you click on the app it will connect :D

Welcome to the forum, I hope you have deep pockets and enjoy your new toy :D , oh an them Hondas arnt a bad bike either, just don't let anyone know I said that ;)

Welcome

Stephen :D

Cracking opening post btw

Cheers Martin, definitely will once the better weather arrives. I've had very limited track time but it's something I'm hoping to pick up a little more - contemplating converting the CBR to a track bike if it's something I want to do on a more regular basis...

 Cheers Chris, yes some brilliant roads up this way. I take it they were just wanting a quick seat on the bike ;)

Cheers Steve, thanks for the tips. I've been in two minds about the link pipe for that reason, and although it doesn't sound too noisy on youtube I know fine well from experience thats not the case. I'm going to run the bike in first then think about the exhaust in the process so I'll have some time to decide. Maybe there is someone on here near the Aberdeen area who has one? Love my little CBR and couldn't bring myself to part with it much to the other half's disapproval of having two bikes...

Cheers Colin, it is indeed. Pics to follow :D

Cheers Kyle. Small world, I used to work on the ramp at Scatsta (go easy) for summer work in between my uni years so theres a good chance we've probably passed one another. You'll be well acquainted with the terms 'delays', 'waiting on weather' and 'nightstop' I take it?

Haha yeah I've spent more nights in the Shetland hotel and the queens than I have in my own house I think.
Scatsta are no better now even after the money they spent on the place.
But they gave us free wifi so shouldn't complain I suppose

Welcome bud, I too hail from another fine Scottish island (Lewis) worked on Yell for a while back in the day, loved it up there.
I have the standard 2015 aaaar one and love it tae bits, brilliant bike, I would no worry about the southern softies worrying about the noise of the Akra and link pipe, it looks and sounds like Aural Sex  the bike can be burbled along inoffensively through towns etc if you wish, I went for the Arrow decat and can , I lost the DB KIler :D but there are plenty exhausts available with a dbkiler now if you wish although not Akra for some reason, ive done a fair bit of riding on the mainland with the bike and never had a tug yet , well not from the law anyway but there was one waitress in Blairgowrie who , em anyway , your no leaving that ugly cat on such a stunning bike its nae allowed  get it tae f**k in the bin were it belongs, enjoy the forum !!

Cheers Donny, always good to come across a fellow islander. I work with quite a few lads from up your way.

I don't think you have much to worry about... the more I look into it the more I want the link pipe! I've been to a lot of short circuit/road race events over the years and the R1's do come across loud but not offensively. Fully appreciate where Steve is coming from but that noise has won me over. Worst case is that it gets replaced with something quieter.
