First ever inline four.

Hi guys,

As the title says really. Had a life of KTM and Ducati twins. Never been a fan of the screaming four but I'm prepared to dip my toe in for the R1. Just bought a 2016 in blue and waiting for it to turn up. Looking forward gaining some four cylinder experience and tips on this forum and seeing just how much better this thing is on track later in the year.

Yeah congratulations mate and welcome to the forum.
This one won't scream at you too much either. I love em all. Love the banger but a 4c8 with yoshi's is pretty unbeatable too.

Currently own a Moto Guzzi Stelvio NTX and now the R1.

As to why the R1....I love the sound of the Big Bang engine, always have. I looked at a Panigale but didn't fancy another bike like the 1290 that wants to wheelie everywhere. I read that the R1 is pretty flat until 7-8k rpm which suits me fine. Did look at the RSV4 as well. It has beautiful handling and sounds awesome but it's too loud, even with the standard exhaust. I've had enough of trying to squeeze bikes through noise tests and being black flagged. I just want to ride the damn thing.

The Guzzi is a fantastic, comfortable, long distance road bike that I don't feel the need to ride fast on. The R1 looks to be the polar opposite. They compliment each other.

Which R1 were you told was docile till 7-8000 rpm ? Because I'm sure the new ones are meant to be pretty nippy ohh and as for noise most cans put them over 105db but you can check all this in the R1 section

We have a thriving track day scene on here, some of us no longer have Yams but its more about friends getting together and having fun. This is your invite to any event home or abroad, Aragon and Alcarras are already booked by some of us. We will be doing several UK days, keep a look out

I've read that the new R1 2015 onwards is a bit peaky compared to previous models. I'll probably keep the standard can or fit a slip on for atheistics. My days of spending £1.5k+ on loud exhaust systems are over....I hope

I went the opposite way from you at the end of the summer. I bought a 1299S without even having ridden a twin. I must say it takes a fair bit of getting used to compared to the R1
