I had a ZZR1200 when I bought my 4xv as a winter project. Once I got the R1 on the road, I basically stopped riding the ZZR. It is just so much better to ride.

I have slightly higher and much flatter bars on mine. Makes a big difference to the comfort.

Again Moise I’m with you. original bars are a strange angle and narrow. Changed mine for slightly raised and reduced angle and it transforms the ability to control the bike completely. In my view of course others may differ.

I thought i was imagining things because its been so long since ive ridden a bike like the 4xv but the bars do seem very low - may look into making it a bit more user friendly guys.

If you’re riding with your forearms parallel to the road the original bars are great, but you have to be on it..

Yes i had figured that newsh it really is a proper race bike for the road - im sure my 916 wasn't as racy in stance as the 4xv but i may have just forgotten with the passing of time.

I just need to get used to it

I’ve just got a set of RME race clipons on mine they are less aggressive and you are able to set them wider if you want.
I’ve never understood why Yamaha and jap bikes in general of this era came with such steep bars and yet if you put race clipons on they were more comfortable and designed for racing so why so steep for the road. Unless they were trying very hard to make the point!

Not my R1 but my FJR it's 14 years old this month and has 32k on the clock. I've owned it from new and it's been very loved. Although I did get caught in the rain once [emoji23]

Thanks John, maybe you will see it in the metal one day - bikers eyes fall out when they see it close up. I get comments like "when did you get this" thinking it is new or "i bet its only got 3k miles on it hasn't it" the mot common one is people think the original 06 plate is a vanity plate and trying to work out what my name is

I just love bikes mate and i get as much enjoyment out of working on them and cleaning them as riding them - i know im not right in the head

Well went out on it again yesterday on some more suitable twisty roads and im pleased to say i just clicked with the bike - not bad considering its only the second time ive rode it i do like how the engine note changes at 7000 rpm that is a bit addictive

Its does not seem quite as fast as my old 2004 R1 but its still fast enough for me now.

The bars started to feel just right - all in all im really made up

Took some more picks so ill put them up in a bit - we all love picks dont we

I've been out on mine 250 mile ride over 2 days. Stayed at a motel right on the beach at Ruakaka north of Auckland. And had shark and tatties for dinner. No bike photos but here's the view from the motel in the morning.

Pleased your enjoying it. Bike looks great.

Yes, it won't have the top end of the 5vy. But the mid-range is great, especially after changing the pilot jets.
