Hi all,
just though I would say hello,
I have just bought a 5JJ R1 in red and white quite standard bike, with a race can, had to take the bike back to the shop as had a bad misfire and carb flooding, so just rode out today down to Bristol and she went well that problem was fixed,
However just out of curiosity are these engines noisy as there is quite some winning going on,
the power valve has apparently been locked in the open position which I would rather get it back in operation.
Anyway three is a bad scuff on the red tail unit so looking for a very good one incase anyone has one for sale.
Hopefully I will be able to contribute in time to the site,
Regards Phill

Welcome in Phil
Yes they can be a tad noisey , you have the yama-tic which sounds like the cam chain but some say it could possibly be the
valves and then you have the clutch rattle , usually if you pull the clutch leaver in the noise goes , it's nothing to worry about
Enjoy the 5jj they're a great bike

Hi Phil and welcome to the forum, good bunch of guys and girls here.
The engines are noisy but better to find someone who will have a listen for you just to make sure as the whining you describe is not something i remember.
Post some pics of your new bike and enjoy your 5JJ mate.

Hi Chaps,
Thanks for the tips they are all very welcome,
Yes there is a clutch issue which goes when the clutch lever is pulled in, so easy fix, new steels and friction plates and I guess theres a trust bearing in there somewhere......
yes I may get there bike over to Frazers in glos for a check over as she has 1k miles warranty from another bike dealer which I bought it from.
Thanks again.
she does pull well
Regards Phill

Welcome to the forum Phil. Post up some pics of your new pride and joy. Being Red she will be as fast as fook , which is faster than the blue -almost as fast as fook R1’s, though the blue ones are fast enough for the blue riders.. ah Clarky [emoji3]

The clutch noise isn't from wear. I understand that it's gear chatter from the stacked box. Syncing the carbs can help.
Some gear pairs whine more than others.
I was a bit freaked out by the noises when I bought mine, but found a clip from a 4xv on YouTube which sounded just like mine. And it still sounds the same after 5 years and 25,000 miles!
Thicker oil, 15W-50, quietens the tick, but doesn't do much for the clutch and gearbox noises.
I've found the best solution to be a louder exhaust.
