thought i would say hi
not been a newbie on a forum in years think last club i signed up for i am the chairman now lol
anyway names matt
normaly i ride a pan european st1100 nice to ride no pains or anything
also had a gsxr 400 sp with i just sold
and then found a r1 nice and cheap so thought why not
like anything cheap needs a bit of work well quite a bit lol
sure will have many questions to ask as i build the bike up
but a few to start if u dont mind
the bike is a 1 owner 15k on the clock plate and log book say its a july 2001 as does the bill of sale and what not so should be a 5jj
well what i was told from teh bloke i bought it from it had been stored for about 5 years and was a bit of a track day bike before that and that i would say is true as it had a race fairing on it
now i got to get all the plastics ect witch i am watching a few on flea bay
at the min i am trying to get it running put a battery on it the other day found out what 2 wires live the bike up as it has no key or barrel ect ( witch i am trying to find )
now pinned the 2 pin plug and the bike kicked into life speedo unit all worked fuel pump worked neutral light was on span it over engine sounded good but did not fire
so took a lead off to check for spark and nothing (checked 4 &2 so both coils checked ) both coils got power getting there
thought maybe the 4 pin plug needed something in it so after looking at the wiring diagram put pins in what i think needs to be joined up
now i have no neutral light and wont spin over even with nothing pluged in lol
geted fuses ect and all good my boss powered or earthed teh wire to the back of the speedo and light come back and i could spin it over so maybe thats the switch
but thinking i might of blown the ecu /cdi thought i would have a quick look on flea bay or a new one just incase and found my one is a 4xv not a 5jj
and noticed the loom says 4xv not 5jj witch would be right if it has a 4xv ecu
now anyone know why it might not be sparking could it be down to not having a ign switch on it if so what wires do i need to live up or earth to get it running as i am at the point i want to hear the engine run before i start buying plastics ect and cleaning the bike right up
as if it dont run then i will just part it out and get my money back that way many bits on it

welcome to the forum mate, hope you get the bike sorted, sounds like a question for the workshop area (you might get some more views in there) and if you decide to keep and make it nice, it might make a good project thread in that section too !

hoping it will start as i have never been on one
as i like my soft seats and no aches and pains lol
but is nice to have a silly bike as well plus adds another toy in the workshop more toys we got less work we have to do

Dont be suprised to find 4XV or 5JJ stamped on lots of things,ive got a 5PW which has alot of parts passed over from the 5JJ,and has lots of them stamped as 5JJ

if bits are swapped across many years would a ing barrel off a 02-03 fit as there is one on ebay cheap
and is what i am after first
