Newbie With R1 4C8 Thinking of Reflash
Hi Everyone,
I have purchased a RED/White combo R1 4C8 supersport.
I am considering whether to get the bikes ecu flashed by Mike?
I have a power commander and I am not entirely happy with it. To the extend I am considering of getting a 16/45 sprocket change then keeping the 17/45 oem.
Low down power could be more smoother and idle on starting. I Have spoken to mike who told me I will not want to change sprockets with the reflash as the lower rpm powerband will be there?
Any guys had a reflash done to there ecu by Mike from veloxracing feedback would be fab!

Probably not the right time of year to get lots of reply's although hopefully you'll get some
LOt's of great reviews on here(via the search function) for Mikes work all praise and none negative so that should tell you something, As for the -1 front sprocket you could always do that post the flash if you think it would be a benefit to your riding style.
The pc fitted has it got a custom map loaded? if so that could be flashed on too

Welcome in mate. From what I've read on here the Flashtune works wonders.

Welcome mate I have had mine flashed by Mike not only is he knowledgable regarding this subject but he is a very helpful guy as well as for the -1 sprocket I nearly did that but on reflection I thought how much speed do I need only riding on the road I want to put the power down not have one wheel in the air all the time.Elahi_786 wrote:Thank you for the being the gent and the first to reply.

I have gone -1 on the front sprocket, love it, why would you not want low down power? how often do you do 185mph? wheelies are fun, if you don't want fun , buy a car
, as for the flashtune , I had my bike custum mapped , im happy with it as is, I don't need any more pep

I totally have to side with masho, I want more power in the low rpm but I want the front wheel to go off an inch or two to get the max acceleration, rather then having a full out wheel. As standard I think the set up would be good with the flash I think it would be to much low down power and to many wheelies lol.. Just my opinion on the matter.
I am not so happy on losing the immobiliser after the flash, is there no way around it?

I do have a question in regards to coolant its due a change and I was thinking whether to go for stock oem coolant or the hyped up engine ice I have heard so much about?
I only use the bike for road use.

Welcome in mate,standard coolant will be fine for road riding,as for the flashtune,check out the "sponsors section" and read for yourself,plenty of happy peeps on here

Hi mate and welcome to the forum, I've got the 4c8 with a pc3 fitted and it's got plenty of low down power, the front wheel is always lifting up without even trying,

Out of interest does your bike have a custom map or just a standard one downloaded from the website, only asking as when I first installed my pc3 I downloaded a map, used that for a few weeks and then had a custom map done, that made a massive differenceElahi_786 wrote:Thanks for comment Bub, I guess someone people like myself are never happy lol.

Welcome. Standard map from Dynojet site are crap (too rich or too lean) so better have custom tune done at the dyno. As for the PC3 I had it on my ex 4c8 too, good thing for sure and improves power delivery etc but doesn't disable factory throttle restrictions or other ECU settings (and ANY dyno chart shows that!) so flashing ECU is for sure nice next step. Besides to have full benefit from using PC you need newer PCV+SFM so then it works with all 8 injectors..
-1 front sprocket is a cheap mode (like 20 quid only?) so why not? As for the coolant I use water wetter and normal coolant but I didn't notice much difference in temps. It works better when mixed with just water..

As above, the -1 sprocket is not a mad change, it wont wheelie unless your really on it in the lower gears, I believe its actually madder in the lower revs with a flashtune as that does away with the throttle restrictions put in place by Yamaha to prevent us all from flipping there pride and joy , so in effect with a flashtune you end up not being able to use the drive so much without wheeling the thing as your getting 100% throttle, each too ther own but for £20 id try the sprocket first then a custom map if your still no happy get it flashtuned,

Thanks for the feedback in affect both you guys are right

I wouldn't let the front wheel be a deciding factor you're the one controlling the power delivery with your right hand it just depends how much you want available

Thanks for all the comment chaps.
I think I will get the flash tune as I prefer having full throttle ( its something I intended of getting done when I purchased the bike) if I am not satisfied I will stick on a -1 tooth at the front and get it re-flashed.

When I got my 4C8 I was dissapointed, all the power well up in the rev range, little mid range to speak of, get eaten alive by GSXR thou's in that department, first thing I did was go -1 on front sprocket, fair improvement, next Flashtune by Mike, liked the more responsive throttle, smoother throughout the rev range, next fit a de cat pipe and race baffled cans, biggest improvement by far, breaths better, more responsive, needs to be re flashed for the mods, this is how Yamaha should sell them (f#*k the emissions), would recommend Flashing but with the all the other mods to get the best out of your ride.

That sounds awesome,
Bike has BMC Race air filter, Carbon Co Exhausts with decat pipe and always run it on V-Power for higher octane. Will send flash out on Monday to Mike and once I have it will report back if I go for -1 sprocket on the front.

Dude, I have the full on flashtune with a map from a guy in Canada, its ticksover a bit high and pulls her around the corner, to be fair I now like it, be aware what I have turns her into a snarling beast of a bike which is difficult to ride but if like me that's what you are after then try it. A standard flash is great for 2-3 inch wheelies and gives more power everywhere, I am still on standard sprockets, I believe anything more with my setup would be crash city, I am still going to try it anyway
I live very close to Scotland and most of my riding is done on quiet open roads at a good pace around the borders etc
If I was to live and ride in towns and cities then I would leave her mostly standard, unless you have a screw loose that is.
