Hello from OZ

Post by ruley »

G'day lads,

was having a troll about the interwebs trying to find info/pics on forged wheels for the R1 and stumbled across your forum. Not new to bikes or R1's, started riding road bikes in 92, had a break from 98 till 01 due to injury and riding again since.

R's wise I've had an 01, 02 and 04 R1 and wife had 03R6 back then too. both of us have been riding euro's since however I picked up another 02R1 just over a year ago to play with (my favourite R1!).

since I've had it I've put a Penske shock in, flicked the Yoshi it had for a ti arrows pipe, did a 04-06 forks(with revalve), 04-06 wheel/discs swap & GSXR Brembo front calipers and radial MC. it already had a PC3, braided lines and ohlins damper.

I'm in the process of ordering OZ piega forged wheels...and in the future I may do the rear caliper/mount and aftermarket discs.

you may ask why with such an old bike....well, I'm building the bike I want....awesome road engine with awesome handling...and no gadgets.

so...if any of you's have an 02-03 with forged rims....gimmy a squiz.....here's mine ATM..

Cheers,

Dean

Nice one Dean welcome in, cracking mods there. Liking the Brembo upgrade, think our Pod will be doing that if they make a worth while difference.

There are a few Carbon wheeled bikes on here but not on the 5PW

thanks lads,

-2....fugg that, 33 today...gotta get on the bike early and get home otherwise you're sweating your butt off!!

re: brakes, best thing I've done to date. stock were good in the day but after you get use to good modern brakes they feel ordinary. I put the calipers on first which was a good improvement and then matched up the MC and that was a dramatic improvement.

the shock was the second best thing I've done. it's a dual compression model, funny thing is I bought it on ebay from a guy in the UK, Penske make a good shock, aimed more towards fast road/track in there valving ports etc similar to ohlins....the old thing though, even a stock shock sprung and valved for you will be night and day
