R1 4xv

Post by TheDarkAvenger »

Hello, just introducing myself. The names Rob and recently bought a 1999 R1 4xv. Not in bad order with just a few marks here and there fully serviced and runs fine as far as I can tell in this lovely Lancs weather.

One question. Where can I get the red paint in aerosols as i plan to paint and polish my wheels. Below a photograph as it came after a quick wash.

Plans cut scorpion exhaust down (I have original system), paint and polish wheels and other metalwork. New Bridgestone S20R's on their way as well and a private plate I own. :D

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum mate, nice looking 4XV you got there. I'd get yourself a steering damper if I was you.

+1 was just about to say I can't see a steering damper , good idea to have one

Welcome in Rob
The 4xv's give alot of bang for you buck ! You may want to make sure your Exup is moving freely but if you strip it watch out because the bolts link to sheer off , S20's are a great tyre I found they needed very little scrubbing in but obviously that's for you to find out , as a hypersports tyre they don't last as long as the sports touring tyres I got about 2500 miles out of a rear , have a search for a thread on tyre pressure as I've now lowered my rear because my tyres weren't lasting as long

Cheers for all the welcomes. It's had a full service just before I bought it and i've had a mechanic had a look over it and he said all's well (apart from tyres). Rides really well apart from no grip but that will be cured soon with the new tyres.

hi there and welcome,

i have the 4xv, awesome bikes. like has been said, watch the exup valve, can be a b1tch.

once the suspension is setup you can have lots of fun, steering damper is a good idea too.

as for the red paint, i don't know if you can get it in spray form but under the rear seat there should be your paint colour codes but a google search will give you what you are after. i know when mine was the same colour scheme as yours i bought some touch up paint from ebay and it worked just fine.

if you want some suspension settings give me a shout.

Cheers bill i have found a near enough match for the wheels by taking my rear hugger to Halfords. They were helpful and the wheel looks more or less right. I'm happy with colour. I'll put photo's on when i've done the front wheel but it takes ages to get all the old paint off polish, then prime and paint. Exhaust done though shortened and sounds great now. :D
