Hello
Hi, I'm an old fart biker with a bad habit of buying too many bikes. Love my two strokes most of all. This is my second R1, a 5jj in Red and White. First was a new 5jj which died of engine failure with less than 1000 miles on it. It was my first ever new bike and Yamaha UK were total arses about it. But after 13 years I wanted to scratch that itch again. Still too fast and too good for me, or am I getting too old and too slow.

Re: Hello
Welcome in Carl
the arveage age on here is 40 , so old farts are welcome . bad news about your first 5jj , the manufacturers can be arse holes & thats all of them .
the R1 is a fast bike thats true but it can also be smooth & steady .
get some pics up of bikes old & new & a bit more of your biking history

Re: Hello
I will be the big Five OOOOOOOHHHHHH in June.
Been on two wheels since 17, first bike was a 1977 KE125 which was quickly changed for a 250LC back when you could still ride a 250 on L plates, passed my test and then swapped for the 350LC. Just love the power delivery of a two stoke hitting the sweet spot.
Currently have the following in the garage, as well as a couple of classic cars. Looking to get a Bimota Vdue this year. So some will be going along with one of the cars.
Yamaha R1 5JJ
Yamaha RD250LC (bog standard)
Yamaha RD500YPVS (Mint , but engine is going to Stan the Man this year for full rebuild, may go to 700cc)
Yamaha XZ550 (don't laugh)
Suzuki GSX1100S Katana
Aprilia RST1000 Futura (best seat ever on a bike or so my bum says)
Kawasaki KE125 (in bits waiting for rebuild)
Honda VF500 F2 (its a dog and has to go)

Re: Hello
Hi Carl,
At 50 you are still in nappies mate.... Pete still sh!ts himself at 48
.... But that may be due to how fast he rides.
At 50 you are almost 5 years behind me.
Welcome to the site mate, you are never too old to ride an R1 . I'm impressed that Jompy has remembered the sites average age... Nice one Jompy....
As you have guessed, there is a lot of banter on here, good humoured p!ss taking, but at the end of the day, young or old, we all support one and other. And that's what makes this forum the best by far.
Enjoy your R1

Re: Hello
Thanks Guys, I will take some pics and upload at the weekend.
You will just laugh at one of the cars, Its White and Green with a deckchair style soft top. Guess away. But if you get it correct you are only admitting to liking them yourself.
