Hi mike,
Glad you got a bike mate, sorry re the problems it's giving you. You did right, you would have been gutted if you had dropped an r1, though we have all done that at some stage.
See you around mate and rue safe

Re: first bikes - why not an R1
Good honest post there.
Personally I think you were right not to get an R1 for your first bike and you have listed some of the reasons yourself why not.
You are better making all the stupid mistakes on something that you dont really care about than on your pride and joy.
When you are ready to move on you will have benefitted more from having a smaller less powerful bike first.

You bought an CBR1000FL, FFS man what were you thinking, should have bought the ZZR1100D1 like me, that would have killed youhash29 wrote:After passing my test a few moons ago i went and purchased my dads bike from him a cbr1000fl..Thinking i was able to handle it with np,almost killed myself on several roads getting it home, i can remember getting home and thinking wtf this isnt what i thought it would be like.
Next day i awoke thinking it wont beat me and duly set off for more, 300 yards down the road i opened the throttle and almost highsided myself into the following week. it took time and lots of omg moments and lots of underware changes before i felt in any way confident on the cbr.
In short it was far to much bike for me after just passing my test.. god only knows what hospital i would have been in had it been an R1

As far as the OP bike, good luck get it fixed learn and by a proper bike

Tuck in behind me, i'll show you the best place to crash
Stopped drinking, smoking, taking drugs and running sex parties, luckily ive still bikes to corrupt me

Re: first bikes - why not an R1
Welcome back Mike
Glad to hear your not dead . . . . . . yet ! the F800's are ment to be a fantastic bike , no it's not a screeming inline 4 sports bike but then it wasn't built to be , you could do with finding some adventure bike guys to go out for a play in the dirt with that'd help improve your balance & clutch control .
Sorry to hear you bought a bit of a lemon but hopefully it'll be ok now , sounds like the lying bastard of a previous owner didn't like spending any money on it like sevicing & such like , ohhh well lesson learnt don't scrip & scrap on your bike maintain & service it regularly .
Hopefully your bike should be sorted now but the other lesson you've learnt is don't trust previous owners , if they say it's had a service maybe it's worth doing again unless you see a receipt for the work , infact ask for receipts to back up their claims !
maybe a year or so of the F800 should do you but remember an R6 or R1 is a different animal but at least you'll have some experience & your insurance should be lower .
P.s. those MT09's look like alot of fun

Let's see if you wouldn't sway a new rider against an r1 after you try one!! It'll make the f800 seam like a honda melody

Re: first bikes - why not an R1
I agree eccelstone did bring it back and I am glad he did, have lived through all the doctors, but must admit I liked John Pertwee and Sarah Jane.... I fancied her who are your favourite baddies, I love the Darliks and Sibermen .. Mind you a siberwoman would be been worsepod wrote:John pertwee wad my "first" everyone talks about tennant and smith but eccelstone brought it back to being populsr again.
