Hi looking at buying a 2006 50th anniv R1
Hi Folks,
hoping to buy a 50th anniversary R1 locally to me. I am aware of a TPS recall on 2007 / 08 R1s. have 2004-2006 R1s been subjected to a recall for failing TPS? what recalls have forum members had to take bikes back for?
What other things should I look out for on a 2006 R1? I've got my usual checklist but I am currently not aware of any further specific issues affecting these models; if there are any others I'd be grateful to know so I can check accordingly tomorrow.
The bike im going to see has a quickshifter; are the gearboxes on R1s pretty robust??

wow hello my name is blah blah...
welcome to the forum, i hope you get all the answers you rquire, as far as i know its only the head lights wires that need replacing on the 9-14 . i think not 100%sure that the cam chain tens, may be a warranty issue on some models..
Get some pics up of the anniversary if you get her, good sollid gear boxes on these later models unlike the early r1s

I don't think there are any specific issues with that model, being that it is the final version of the 5valve engine, with only slight mods from the 2004 model.
I guess you should make sure that the EXUP valve is free, and that all brake pistons are free.
Check that all panels are secure, and that the clips and tabs are not broken off - you'd need to release the Dzeus fasteners to check that. If the previous owner(s) have been less than carefull with panels - they are easy to break the tabs off.
Prime locations would be the tailpiece and the upper-side fairing pieces.
Otherwise - there is not much other than the checks you would perform for all bikes?
Read somewhere that bikes that had been tracked extensively may have suffered from partial lub oil "starvation" .

The 5vy was recalled for the TPS .... But you need to know Yamaha build quality is first class, better than honda, and the Yamaha warranty means that whatever goes wrong with the bike is replaces, I can vouch for that. I had a 5vy that did 65,000 miles without missing a beat, when it had two days of warranty left, Yamaha replaced the wheels, cos the paint started to flake, it had ridden through two harsh winters..... I have done over 150,000 miles on r1's and never had a problem, they have never let me down and Yamaha have never questioned a warranty claim..... Yamaha's word is as good as their bikes, and the bikes are the best japan could produce. ,

Not heard off any gearbox issues on the 5vy , the TPS recall was on the 5vy though, my 4C8 has never had a recall or a problem with the TPS
The Anny is a lovely bike check it like any othjer you buy, if its been looked after youll be a happy bunny.

Somewhere - I have a used review of the 5VY model, where owners and "experts" are asked their opinions..............
Must dig it out and maybe scan and upload to a server.

I've got 4 mags all with reviews of the 5vy, not a bad word said to be honest. I got them used from eBay for a couple of £ each.

The TPS recall was not for all models of 5VY and went by frame number, only some were affected
