Jeff , thank you for an honest replyYamUK wrote:Hi Steve R1. Im a big fan of the original R1. Did the launch in '98 with Mackenzie and a load of journos and the new bike simply blew everyone away. It was so much better that anything that came before it. The original R1 was a massive jump forward and in many ways the 2015 has moved the game on as much as the original did - although everything is obviously now at a higher level. I have ridden both the new R1 and the R1M and both are amazing. The noise and the way the engines picks up revs is simply intoxicating. You get off and immediately want more. This sounds like an advert but I promise it is my own experience - the bike is simply addictive and feels like a thoroughbred racing bike. Stunningly fast but so easy to ride. So which is better? I have to admit the R1M has the edge. The front Ohlins especially are something else. But I rode both bikes on the track and while the R1 was stock the R1M had slicks, slightly different gearing and the ERS was set up for the circut. So would have expected it to be faster.Steve R1 wrote:Welcome to the forum Jeff a great first post, let down only by the lack of pictures, however given your credentials we will let you off.
We are definatly mad about Yamaha's on here, I have loved them all my life, my mum worked fir a Yamaha dealership from the 1960's to the mid 1980's spent many a happy Saturday in that dealership![]()
Sadly, and I have to say this, I was one of the unlucky ones who wasn't allocated an R1M , I'm really pleased for the guys that have got them, so no issues there.
My dilemma is this, and I hope you can help, do I get a standard one now, or wait fir next years R1M's to come out, will the bidding be the same? I have a 2012 anniversary, which I won't sell, but I am considering swapping the little R6 I have .
Any info on what's going to happen next year will be helpful, I'm even prepared to put a deposit down now for an M and wait for as long as it takes.
Yourvthoughts are very much appreciated, and thank you for having the balls to come on our forum and face your customers directly.... For that sir, I salute and applaud you :and Yamaha![]()
![]()
So would I choose the R1M...yes. But would I wait till next year to get one...NO! You get off an R1 and you cant stop thinking about your next ride. Its like nothing else and until you've ridden one its hard to comprehend just how good it is to ride. So get a go on one as soon as you can whatever it takes.
So sell the R6, sell the hamster, sell anything you need to but get a new R1...
So what about the 2016 R1M? Well Yamaha never stated that the R1M was a limited edition in the sense of only xxxx many would be built. What they said was 'production was limited' meaning that they could only build so many per year. Certain special components like the carbon parts and CCU can not be manufactured in large numbers, limiting the number of R1Ms that can be made each year. So no more for 2015 but there will be another run for 2016. No decision has been made yet on the 2016 ordering system but I will let you know information when I can. The on-line reservation system that we used for this year was thought to be the fairest way of giving everyone the same chance of buying one of the first units.
Hope that answers your question. Jeff

I'm going to have to think very seriously about this, try for an M again or bite the bullit now. The thing is I would loose a shed load if I git a standard one now and then an M next year, though I'm sure one of the guys on here would do the decent thing and but the 15 R1 from me

Decisions decisions decisions ...

Once again, many thanks for your honest reply

Re: Just joined....
Hi Jeff, good to see you in here.
For starters as a very long time Honda owner, it's an unusual move to put yourself above the parapet on any Forum... Fair play, I've never seen that sort of reaction from Honda when they have got it wrong.
This is my first R1 experience albeit back in the day i was born into bikes on Yamaha's finest RD125DX twin, then an RD125LC, quick flirt with a DT125LC and then onto the obligatory 350LC's.
The only reason i didn't get an RD500 was the fact (as is now) i could not get my hands on one but i did get an RG500 very quickly ... It turned out to be the better bike by all accounts.
I then went to Suzuki for their ground breaking RGV250's which were better bikes than the 500's and finally to the ground breaking Fire Blade .... Before Yamaha broke new ground with the R1 but by then i was Honda all the way until this day.
Thats all by the by maybe, but lets face the facts, i never waited until mid summer for any of those bikes and i have broken away from a very long term Honda Brand ownership and that is exactly what Yamaha want.
You don't actually need long term brand die hards buying an upgrade, you need to access new market share in the brand, thats how sales growth is achieved isn't it?
So firstly, i have to offer my apologies to those in here who have accepted me into their passionate forum with open arms as a new (eventually) R1M owner and by the same token i find it all an embarrassing mess personally and particularly for Yamaha.
The application format was fundamentally floored ....time compressed and generally unknown/Marketed to real R1 die hards ... where were the 'flyers' to the R1 community to say 'We are going to do this lads ... are you interested before we launch it to the general public?' ...
So i got one, thats great for me, however.
I have found out more about the supply situation, the recall and the problems from USA forums than anything i have found out in the UK ... The dealers are seriously behind the eight ball ... Thats bad.
The YRE is another absolute Joke, i still do not have a bike delivery estimate above 18th June.
I go on holiday for 2 weeks at the end of that week .... I come back July.
I am then expected to collect bike run it in for 1000 miles (thats what the manual says isn't it) and get myself to the YRE within a couple of weeks ..
Is this the Yamaha Racing Experience?
Should it be the Yamaha Relaxed Experience on how to ride your technological breakthrough
Or is it actually the Yamaha Right to the death Experience.
Sorry for the downside of this situation but it's fact.
We all have jobs to pay for these premium motorcycles and most of us can't just go to the boss and say i will take a week off at the drop of a hat just in case your new R1M arrives and you are actually booked into a YRE via DG Sports.
I have emailed Don today asking for an update on delivery.
I really don't know if i can do the YRE ... I don't know when my bike is actually going to be ready to run it in for 1000 miles!

I think pipe you've just posted what most people feel about what has happened , it looks like the bikes been rushed for release ( let's hope the bike is ready ) and the actual release has been an afterthought , they'll be a few people in Yamaha doing face plants saying " I told them suis would happen , Doh ! "

This time next year . . . . .. we'll be Millionaires !
sorry
this time next year most will have forgotten about this as long as Yamaha can sort it out soon .
it's a shame really as a lof of people have been upset by things not running right & to be honest could you imagine the stink that would have been kicked up if VW or BMW did this ? Something went wrong & I feel sorry for the people at Yamaha that tried so hard & the customers that have been let down .

Why is 'Sales Growth' so damaging?
Hummm, yes maybe my diatribe could have been worded better, punctuated better and grammatically improved, but probably conveyed the general mood.
I don't have a problem with my dealer or anybody from Yamaha UK that have taken the time to listen to me bleating on, they have all dealt with me in a polite and professional manner.
Lets hope the bods in Japan learn something from it and lets hope it's all resolved soon. I really cant wait to ride the bike.

Re: Just joined....
SALES...? yeah supposed to be about supplying the customer with exactly what they want, therefore the consumer creates his/her desired market. Except in the real world it's about manipulation, bullshit, the creation of said desires, preying upon peoples vulnerability, diverting peoples focus and priorities away from the true beauty of life and real values...all with a smiley face.
GROWTH...? A growing financial economy...can you see the contradiction? On a planet of finite resources where a countries success is measured by its GDP...need I go on?
Sorry Pipe, not a personal dig at you mate, just the two words together give me the creeps.
ps. hope your bike comes soon mate

No offence taken Pete, just couldn't unravel the deeper meaning in the statement.
I totally see your passion now Pete and I do absolutely see your point, I also agree with a lot of what you are saying.
I think your original phrase was condensed into too few a words for me to grasp what you were trying to convey.
... Jeff is inconspicuous in his absence today

Not a dig at anyone, just a kind of external observation of the barking mad world we've created for ourselves, I don't blame anyone, it's just causality.
I'm sure Jeff understands(sorry mate, went a bit off topic
...makes a change
).
Wish I had an R1M on the way...you bunch of lucky barstewards

I hope Jeff comes back , I think it shows bollocks turning up on a forum trying to explain why things arn't going well with the launch of a £15,000 to £18,500 product
