Hi there. Hope no one minds me joining your Forum as it does feel a bit like I'm intruding...!
My name is Jeff Turner and I'm the Marketing Manager at Yamaha UK and the reason I've registered is simply to try and answer any questions members might have about the new R1 and R1M as this seems to be the place where everyone's talking.
Like many people inside Yamaha we too are passionate motorcyclists and we love our products. So as a 'new member' let me tell you a little about my biking credentials...
I started riding at 15 and the first bike I owned was called a Gitanes Champion Veloce (look it up!!). I've owned air cooled and water cooled RD's, couple of XS models and I even bought a new FZ750 when they first came out - plus Ive ridden almost every model Yamaha have made in the last quarter century. Ive always been involved with bikes having worked in dealerships, aftermarket manufacturing, the bike press and Yamaha UK - or Mitsui as it was when I joined. Ive also been heavily involved with racing having been a member of the original Team Bike Endurance squad from 1982 (visit http://www.howardleesracing.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ) and worked with Loctite Yamaha, Fast Orange, Cadburys Boost and the Virgin team. Ive even been a guide rider at the Nordschleife!
So I hope my experience as a motorcyclist will allow me to participate in your discussions and maybe I can assist or at least help to clear up any misunderstandings.

You sir are very welcome here, this is a great place to talk bikes, no matter who makes them.
Your knowledge is needed and wanted, we do like those who also have a sense of humor so please join in the banter
Now then why did Yamaha move away from the 4c8 16v engine

Welcome in Jeff
Very good first post but not quite carling ! Where's the pictures ?
I sure the 2015 R1 guys will be especially pleased that you've made an effort to keep them informed
My question for you is why do we pay almost double for OEM parts in the UK compared to the US of A ? Answers on a postcard

Welcome to the forum Jeff a great first post, let down only by the lack of pictures, however given your credentials we will let you off
.
We are definatly mad about Yamaha's on here, I have loved them all my life, my mum worked fir a Yamaha dealership from the 1960's to the mid 1980's spent many a happy Saturday in that dealership
Sadly, and I have to say this, I was one of the unlucky ones who wasn't allocated an R1M , I'm really pleased for the guys that have got them, so no issues there.
My dilemma is this, and I hope you can help, do I get a standard one now, or wait fir next years R1M's to come out, will the bidding be the same? I have a 2012 anniversary, which I won't sell, but I am considering swapping the little R6 I have .
Any info on what's going to happen next year will be helpful, I'm even prepared to put a deposit down now for an M and wait for as long as it takes.
Yourvthoughts are very much appreciated, and thank you for having the balls to come on our forum and face your customers directly.... For that sir, I salute and applaud you :and Yamaha

Will there be more R1M's next year or is this truly a one off production?

Hi R1Clarky. Ride as much and as often as I can. - but prefer track when given the choice. Was out on an MT-09 Street Rally yesterday and a new YZF-R3 last week. Track frenzy sounds good - what circuit you going to? Jeff

Re: Just joined....
Hi Steve R1. Im a big fan of the original R1. Did the launch in '98 with Mackenzie and a load of journos and the new bike simply blew everyone away. It was so much better that anything that came before it. The original R1 was a massive jump forward and in many ways the 2015 has moved the game on as much as the original did - although everything is obviously now at a higher level. I have ridden both the new R1 and the R1M and both are amazing. The noise and the way the engines picks up revs is simply intoxicating. You get off and immediately want more. This sounds like an advert but I promise it is my own experience - the bike is simply addictive and feels like a thoroughbred racing bike. Stunningly fast but so easy to ride. So which is better? I have to admit the R1M has the edge. The front Ohlins especially are something else. But I rode both bikes on the track and while the R1 was stock the R1M had slicks, slightly different gearing and the ERS was set up for the circut. So would have expected it to be faster.Steve R1 wrote:Welcome to the forum Jeff a great first post, let down only by the lack of pictures, however given your credentials we will let you off.

So would I choose the R1M...yes. But would I wait till next year to get one...NO! You get off an R1 and you cant stop thinking about your next ride. Its like nothing else and until you've ridden one its hard to comprehend just how good it is to ride. So get a go on one as soon as you can whatever it takes.
So sell the R6, sell the hamster, sell anything you need to but get a new R1...
So what about the 2016 R1M? Well Yamaha never stated that the R1M was a limited edition in the sense of only xxxx many would be built. What they said was 'production was limited' meaning that they could only build so many per year. Certain special components like the carbon parts and CCU can not be manufactured in large numbers, limiting the number of R1Ms that can be made each year. So no more for 2015 but there will be another run for 2016. No decision has been made yet on the 2016 ordering system but I will let you know information when I can. The on-line reservation system that we used for this year was thought to be the fairest way of giving everyone the same chance of buying one of the first units.
Hope that answers your question. Jeff
