Hi everyone,
Just joined as I picked up my mint 01 R1 on the weekend. She's a beauty!!
I also have a 97 Vmax, just for straight line riding of course.
I'm hoping to get maintenance and upgrade/enhancement tips from here and will regularly be visiting.
I am based just outside Newport in South Wales.
Cheers, Joolz

Re: Newbie
Welcome to the forum Joolz and congratulations on your purchase, how are you finding your new R1, completely different from the VMax, and unlike that the ar1 loves the twisties.
We are a nosey bunch on here, so share some pics with us and your initial thoughts on the r1.

Re: Newbie
Thanks for the welcome Steve.
It certainly is very different to my Vmax. I rode her home on Saturday around 75 miles and haven't been able to get back out on her yet but I am hoping to have a spin around the block this evening
First impressions are the obvious, beautiful, smooth, quick, stops well, goes around corners well.
Being expensive to insure is the only negative so far but, hey-ho!! Also, it is a little hard on my wrists but I'm sure I will get used to that.
I will post some pics soon. She is a real beauty. Spent most of Sunday just looking at her. I think I'm in love
Cheers, Joolz

Re: Newbie
Welcome in Julian
Those 5jj's are a lovely bike , they share a lot of parts with the 4xv like frame, wheels & engines are similar , things that are different are ECU , bodywork i.e. tank , fairing , seat unit & headlight also the radiator & wiring looms are different .
Check the main 20pin white plug on the wiring loom that sits behind the left hand fairing to make sure its in good order & been greased as these can cause problems , also DON'T tighten the sump bolt up to 42nm its a lot less more like 15-20nm .
get the service manuals and parts micro fiches for both the 4xv & 5jj downloaded , use the online PDF link & down load the parts manuals from there .
http://www.partzilla.com can be helpful for online parts micro fiches for getting part numbers & checking prices in the states you can then enter the partnumber into O.E.M part search on places like http://www.wemoto.com
enjoy

Re: Newbie
Thanks everyone for your welcomes.
I think I'm gonna enjoy it here.
I don't have a photo bucket account so can't post any pics yet but will do as soon as I open one.
Thanks again,
Joolz
