Welcome in Andy
The 4xv is a mint bike & so is the 5jj so don't count that out either , they are a lot of bang for your buck , I've known people pick up a ratty looking 4xv for as little as £1800 and you can get chancers asking £3500 , one guy on here was selling a good example of a 5jj with a highly tuned 4xv engine & the original 5jj engine for £3300 h then he saw sense
I'd look at around the £2500 mark for a clean bike but wait till you get some more replies of the other guys , in the mean time have a bloody good trawl through 4xv & 5jj sections , main difference between the two bikes is tank , seat , bodywork , fairings & the 5jj has the AIS which I think spellspells Advanced Induction System

Welcome in m8 :)
Seems a bit pricey to me especially as he/she wants to charge you/someone more for damper & cowl - but it's your money - my unmolested 5jj with seat cowl & sprint damper and sub 20k miles cost me 2700 3 yrs ago ;) ;) good luck pal :)

it all depends on what your willing to pay , personally if the bike was less miles one owner from new with the damper & cowl thrown in then maybe it might be worth it , i personally wouldn't pay £3000 BUT . . . . .
if you have the money & don't mind paying over the odds then fair enough

Hmm. Maybe if it was a 98 with the red seat... But then I'm biased as my 4xv is in the original blue and white.

The trouble with buying minters is the owner usually thinks it's worth more than the actual value and is very reluctant to drop the price.

But welcome to the forum and good luck with finding an early R1. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.

Welcome me in bud, there was some stunning examples on here a while back not sure if any are still available, 3700 would get you a stunning 2003 5pw with change or even a 5vy .....
You could have my 5pw and have 2k spare [emoji33] but she ain't no minter

Welcome to the forum Andy and good luck in your search for your future R1. You seem a sensible guy, so have a good look around and take the advice of the guys on here, they know their R1 onions and their knowledge is priceless, even Jompy's .

Let us know how you get on, post up some pics of your new bike when you get her and join in with the banter.

Welcome

Stephen :)

Thanks for the replies
Sometimes I have to listen to my head ( maybe just once )
And I think you are right the bike I'm looking at is over priced
It does look like a clean one , but I would prefer the red seat 1998
No one has put a bid on yet so I will make a offer
If not I will keep looking in the for sale part here

Good luck Andy
remember it all depends oh how clean & original you want the bike , some of the guys have had good results with the "chinese" fairings that are pre painted in the colours of your choice , think with a tank cover they're about the £400 mark delivered

Sounds to me you should wait till a red seat 1998 comes up. You need to find a bike that you love and will be happy with. You don't want to be kicking yourself in a few months time when you find the right bike.

Hi mate and welcome to the forum, as said that 4XV is overpriced, for the money i'd expect the red n white one, or as Luke said a 5VY or a 5PW, not a lot more will also get you a 4C8, why are you going for a 4XV ??

if you can't find one with a red seat you could always have the seats recovered or buy red seats

Hi
I'm going for the 4xv as I like to ride old bike with a bit of character
And I can see it being a future classic
( which means I can't afford one just like the z900 when this happens )
It will get used as all my bike do when I get time

Hi Andy,
I'm fairly new to my R1 (01 5JJ). I took the plunge a couple of weeks ago and loved it instantly. I'm sure you will too.

I have another bike for just nipping around which isn't hard on my wrists and thumbs but the R1 on a decent run is just awesome.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi
I picked the bike up today and first impressions are wow
Speed is just any number you fancy
The bike feels planted on the road does not get moved by cross winds
In any gear you can open her up and she goes and after 6000 rpm things start to get
Interesting
Couple of bits need doing but that's me being picky and I got her for 2900
